Is it a slatted base, and if so how far apart are the slats?

    Hi Tim

Yes it is a slated base, the gap in between the slats are 5.5cms.

Sleepmaster now trying to reduce my refund for usage charge for the time I have had the mattress?

    1. Most pocket sprung mattresses aren't suitable for slats more than 1" apart. Except for those with memory foam on both sides, because the memory foam on the bottom spreads the weight out. So you would be able to use them with gaps of up to 3". Many manufacturers say that you can use theirs on a slatted base......you can, but they won't last as long. You can modify you bed by either adding extra slats, or laying a sheet of pegboard (hardboard if you can't get it) over the slats.
    2. Most good quality pocket sprung mattresses would be suitable to support both of you, but if you are very light then I wouldn't go too firm.
    3. If the mattress has full size pocket springs (not the reflex foam encapsulated type), and the memory foam is only 2" to 2.5" then you should have no problem with temperature.
    4. Its only with open coil sprung or reflex foam mattresses that you need firm support for back problems. This is because soft mattresses of this type can sag in the middle where most of the weight is. With pocket sprung mattresses this isn't a problem due to the way it works.

There have been a few negative reports about the Sensaform in the MSE forums, so it might be worth doing a search on them.

Did you know that Rest Assured and Sealy are the same company as Silentnight (again do a search in these forums).

My advice would be to go for smaller independent manufacturers where you are more likely to get much more for your money.

PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON SLEEPMASTER BEDS - THEY ARE AWFUL. Sorry cant comment on other makes but save yourself the hassle and don't touch SLEEPMASTER!!!!

How long did you say it was until you reported the fault?

You have just proved your lack on knowledge of mattresses......even common sense will tell you that when you lay on a foam mattress the air channels will be squashed flat. I have actually spoken to a couple of manufacturers, who off the record will admit to people in the trade that air flow channels are just a gimmick, just like many other features in the bed industry.

While I'm sure many many MSEers are grateful for your professional input others are entitled to their opinion too.
Your personal opinion of my very expensive bed was not too high when I bought it if I remember rightly?
But I'm as happy with it today as I was then & to me its £1,500 well spent & I don't believe "I personally" could have bought anything that would please me in terms of comfort more.

I don't know if Tempur are an expensive trade name, but I do know they are probably the most famous bed makers in the world today.
I plumped not for a Tempur I got the Dreams Kildare & adore it:smileyhea

Mrs E, please don't get me wrong, I never said that Kaymed (Dreams Kildare) don't make a good mattress. All I sad was that you could get just as good if not better for half the price. And unless you had shopped around and tried loads of different models then there is no way that you could know if the model you got was any better or any worse than many of the alternatives.

I really do respect everyones views, and as I have said previously, part of my research involves listening to 1000's of views of people who have previously owned the models that they give me feedback on. The person in question gave his view on one model that he owns, and wouldn't accept that there were any negatives to the design or price. Then he went on to hurl personal abuse at me because I didn't agree with him 100%. An expert opinion is built up over years of a combination of research, listening to consumers, and liasing with manufacturers. It is a fact that many manufacturers will be open about the gimmicks used to members of the trade, but to members of the public it is all smiles, hype, and gimmicks designed to make people part with more and more cash.
  • Sorry if this is a dumb question but... I mentioned in a previous post that my mum is suffering with a bad back (leading to pain in her left leg) and I am taking her tomorrow to try out matresses at a few local bed shops. In order to find her a good quality mattress that will hopefully give her relief, which matresses/things on the information sheets should I look out for. I am only taking her to try out the 'feel' so that I can order from a decent company online ;-)

It sounds like your mother's requirements are medical rather than comfort. The first thing she should do is see a back specialist. Some mattresses that give excellent support by contouring to the body can make some conditions worse due to it being in contact with areas that a previous mattress may not have.

If she is going for pocket sprung, then she should go for what she finds most comfortable. However it is best to stay between 1000 and 1800 springs (in a king size mattress).

If she is going for memory foam, then then best type for support is pocket sprung with memory foam. The optimum density is between 60 and 70kg per m3, and the optimum depth for the memory foam is 2" to 2.5". If she likes a soft mattress then memory foam won't be suitable, as it must be high density to work properly.
  • Thanks for the advice. She has an MRI on Wednesday and then she will have to see the consultant again so I guess I will wait and ask for his opinion...

To be fair Tim, I have often got this impression posted below by Kwaichi from you.

I think it is great that you believe in the products you sell, but that does not mean that every type of other product on the market is rubbish.

I can assure you that I have no issues with changing position or having sex on the mattress :) I think it is pretty much impossible to sink too deep in the mattress to get too hot. It recovers very quickly too and I have video evidence online to prove it. The airflow system on the Ergoflex mattress is different to Tempur's offering- the mention of tempur on their website is probably more to do with SEO marketing as they are quite a young company.

I have slept on a lot of different types of mattresses and tried a lot in store but my pick over all of these is the ergoflex through it's superior comfort.

I think you are seriously speculating on the warranty terms and your use of the english language.

    'From AskOxford.com

    warranty

    • noun: (pl. warranties) 1 a written guarantee promising to repair or replace an article if necessary within a specified period.

    guarantee

    • noun: 1 a formal assurance that certain conditions will be fulfilled, especially that a product will be of a specified quality. '

At the end of the day you may say that it's expensive for what it is but I think it's value for money. Feel free to send me one of your mattresses to review and I will give a fair and impartial assessment. I get about 1.2k views per day so your marketing potential is there if you really believe in your product.

I spent about £80 on my Tempur queen size pillow which is expensive for a pillow but far superior to any other pillow that I have ever used (over 20 in the last 5 years). I would still call this value for money as it offers me support to my neck and head which you can't get from a mattress alone (or no one would use a pillow). Actually I think the pillow is well underrated in the purchase of a new bed - it seems like an afterthought and hardly any research is ever done prior to the purchase.

This is his first post on the subject above, he is a vid blogger & reviews things (his own personal opinion).
If he wants to say on her that he has one & loves it, then thats what this site is about.

I also have a Tempur pillow & I love it too & think it well worth the money:D
