  • Hi, I need help as the world of bed is driving me a little mad - my first bed purchase ever and i've put off buying a bed for the last 2 month as was so baffled with the choice from my first visit, i've not stepped foot into another store until today! My air mattress cant be doing me much good but cant afford to get this wrong so am determined to stick it out and make a decision this week

Help from those in the know would be much appreciated (double size)

Before we get to mattress- would anyone be able to advise on a good price range for a bedstead? Kind of keen on the metal look but not sure if base on these is bad for support of a mattress or is there anything i should watch out to ensure its decent quality? This will then drive my budget for the mattress or compromise with a divan :( to get a better mattress :)

    Mattress
    1) does anyone have feedback +/- tips on the ergo flex?
Am tempted but a bit nervous about buying without trying, esp as return cost will be down to me. Liked the feel of a Tempur in store but not financially viable whilst the Ergoflex seems a decent alternative from what seems like SOME genuine customer feedback - or am i just being taken in by the marketing speel? Despite everything i've read, memory mattresses still baffle me a bit

From trying some beds in furniture village today was reasonably happy with Sleepeeze Vancouver ( 1000 pocket springs (5'/150cm size), and an enhanced memory foam layer) on the comfort level albeit ouch on the price front (net research yet to do).

i'm looking to spend btw 500-600 - the less the better!

    thanks

    M

ahh, sorry forgot this also.....are bed frames a standard size? eg if i was to buy one double size mattress and one king size mattress, would i get the same size bed frame for both or are their different sizes for the different mattresses

I'll try to answer all three of your questions in this post:

Ikea mattresses don't come close to the standard of British made mattresses. This actually applies to most other countries, as making mattresses is one of the few things that we are still the best at.

The gauge of the pocket springs would depend on the construction od the rest of the mattress as well as the number of springs.

All UK sizes are standard, but Ikea use continental sizes which are different.

    Hi,

Can anyone confirm whether this mattress is a good buy, or whether there is a better alternative for the same price range?

I'm definitely looking for a (king size) pocket sprung, memory foam mattress as I have a bad back.

I've seen a metal bed with a sprung slatted base that I like (around £250 at Bensons) - I can't have a divan as my cats rip them to shreds.

    Any input would be great.

    Thanks.

The memory foam density is too low, and it doesn't state the depth. It contains the cheaper, smaller reflex foam encapsulated pocket springs, which also means that the ventelation won't be as good in the mattress. It is non turn. And it isn't really suitable for a slatted base.

Apart from all the above it seems ok.

    Thanks for your help.

Can you suggest an alternative for the same price?

You will struggle to get a good quality pocket sprung/memory foam mattress for that price. You would be better off going for either pocket sprung only, or if you must have memory foam, then go for a good quality open coil sprung/memory foam mattress.

Just found this forum while looking round for a new bed, would appreciate any help few details below:

Presently have a 6 year old king size Millbrook Ensign, 800 pocket sprung mattress (standard comfort level ) with sprung divan base and a 3” feather mattress topper on.
Am moving house and theres no way the above will fit in so am looking for a 4’ 6’ double divan bed. Id love to take the bed with me and have tried every which way but theres no way its gonna fit.

Im 6’ 2”, weight 240lb but fit. Get lower back pain and side hip pain, having said that I don’t get ANY problems on the above bed, just in hotels and friends places. I do get very warm in bed and sweat during the summer under a normal feather quilt.

Im looking for something equal or better to the above and don’t really want to spend over £550 at the most. Have read about the Ergoflex mattress which sounds great, have never used or even tried a memory foam one but reviews sounds very good, only thing that puts me off is the heat aspect as I do tend to get warm in a “normal” bed.

Would appreciate any help and info

    Thanks
    Si

Due to the construction of the Ergoflex mattresses they prevent air circulation to dissipate the heat. If you are going to go for memory foam then you would be bteere of with a mattress made from springs and memory foam. If you go for pocket sprung with memory foam then go for proper full size pocket springs, rather than reflex foam encapsulated springs, as the foam that encapsulates the springs can also prevent air circulation.

Have you thought that it could be you feather topper that is making you too hot?

Thanks for the reply Tim, appreciate it.
As silly as this sounds the thought has never even crossed my mind that it might be the topper thats making me warm while in bed, once you said that though obviosuly it makes perfect sense! Ive just removed it and am gonna sleep without it for the next week and see how i go on.

Thanks again and will let you know

    Cheers

I've just been looking at the Ergoflex site, and they use 9cm of memory foam. This is far too deep, and could also make you feel hotter as you sink deeper into it. The optimum depth is 2".
