you're talking about a micro sim. the new iphone uses a nano sim which is even smaller. giffgaff currently don't provide nano sims.

Giffgaff sims arrive about 4 days after ordering. They provide pop out nano sims.
Also, it isn't hard to cut down any SIM from any provider. Just buy a SIM punch from ebay for about £2.50
    Two questions:
    • Where do Giffgaff say that they provide pop-out nano-SIMs? From what I can see, the smallest SIMs they issue are micro-SIMs.
    • Where can you buy a nano-SIM cutter on eBay for £2.50? They seem to be around £15 at the moment, although they will no doubt come down to the typical existing prices of around £2 for micro-SIM cutters.

Those pop out sims are micro not nano as used in the iPhone 5.

    More like £15.
Best deal for iPhone 5 surely is buy an unlocked phone from Apple - £529, then get a £10 goodybag each month, recurring (unlimited data/unlimited texts/250 mins/free giffgaff to giffgaff). Total cost over 24 months =£32.04 per month and no contract to get out of. No brainer... am I missing something?
Yes you are, that £10 goodybag won't be £10 for much longer, it will probably end up being £13 or £35.04 per month over 24 months which isn't significantly cheaper than a signing up to a contract. You can get sim only contracts (which are never more than 12 months long) with a similar amount of minutes for less money.

God even MSE mods have got into all this APPLE marketing caper....is MSE not about consumers & credit awareness ? No its now about a price marked up underspeced mobile phone & how to get your hands on one  if ever one consumer item goes against the MSE ethos its a i-phone, yet MSE give free publicity & marketing to it & its network partners !

It will only get worse when Martin leaves his paid position for moneysupermarket to make money out of such actions on the site.

    NOT impressed.

All MSE users have their little luxuries. iPhone is mine.

I've waited 2 years for this phone, and I certainly appreciate the MSE advice on what is the most cost effective way of obtaining one.

A wall of silence would leave MSE users further exposed to losing money through a lack of advice.

As it turns out - over 2 years my o2 upgrade path was actually the same price as a pay as you go card, and buying direct from apple. So i've upgraded through o2.

PAYG? Any real figures to support this?

MSE mods are simply reporting a new product release, keep yer hair on and calm down. Your obviously not an apple fan but please try to understand that some people are actually interested in ALL new products being released. Gee Whizz take a chill pill

    Yes:
I did stay on the o2 site - because price is obviously not the only consideration with telephones; as a travelling salesman/engineer, mobile 3g access is key to my work and o2 provide excellent coverage for this.

    so purely from o2:

    32Gb white iphone 5
    Upgrade with o2
    upfront :£299.00
    Data: 1Gb
    Monthly Tariff: £26.00
    Total tariff - 2 years: £624.00
Total cost over 2 years: £923.00

    32Gb white iphone 5
    upfront: Unlocked, from apple: £599.00
    Data: 1200mb (100mb / month)
    Monthly PAYG Tariff: £10.00
    Total Tariff - 2 years: £240.00
Total cost over 2 years: £839.00

so PAYG _appears_ to be £90 cheaper over 2 years, but now factor in the hassle of topping up, charges and inconvenience when you run out. And transferring my number? Is it possible, will it work?
    What about downtime?

So I went for the 2 year monthly lock-in price.

Thats also partly because I cant afford to shell out £600 up front today. :)

and I forgot to mention the "underspecced" comment from the earlier comment - the honourable gentlemen simply does not understand Apple products.

Its about user experience, not who has the most Gigaflops, or tickles the deepest armpits, or whatever buzzfactors are trolling their way around the marketing hype these days.

When you sit in a car, do you only consider MPG and BHP? ride quality and interior comfort are paramount as well! And then there's styling......

I would not swap my iphone for any other phone. the ease of use, autobackups, auto transfer of apps, auto sync of my music database, and the _sharing_ of paid apps (like satnav) around my wifes iphone and my ipad, and now my work iphone as well, makes the app outlay UBERCHEAP ;)

I'm using my £140 satnav app (Navigon) with full EU maps on 4 separate devices at no extra charge :money:

same goes for my CRM app, and my office apps, and all the games.

Free satnav is simply not good enough for my work. :)

So there's a lot to consider, and compared to an expensive car, the cost outlay is minimal as well. It is a luxury I decided to invest in.

Any examples of MSE simply reporting a release of any other new products.

They report new credit products and new gas and electric products on a pretty much daily basis.

it just so happens the iphone thing only comes around but once a year. If people are spending a lot of money on it - i want MSE to cover it!! they should do a "cheapest android phone" one as well.
