I think part of the reason I feel so bad right now is that I didn't get to take her, her boyfriend did. Its a massive moment in her life and I'm not there with her :(

Enjoy the peace and the full fridge - they'll be back before you know it!:D
Never a truer word spoken, DD is coming home this evening and she's only been gone for a week! :D

It's just to get some washing done (she's worked out I do it free and she has to pay for the laundrette in the halls :D) and I'm going to make her a roast dinner, I think she's lived on sandwiches, pasta and alcohol this week! She's going to stay the night because her course doesn't start until Tuesday, we speak every day on the phone and we've Skyped but it's going to be lovely to see her in the flesh.

My daughter is off to Uni tomorrow and I'm really struggling to hold back the tears already.

I'm a lone parent and have been for the last 8 years so we have become quite a team, her brother calls her his second mum lol (there are 8 years between them) I'm going to miss her like mad........that daft thing is she's only going 24 miles away. She off to study biomedical Genetics at Newcastle university, we live just outside Durham :o

Any wise words for me to make it easier to handle missing her?
Oh Looby I know just how you feel. We live just outside Durham too (the other side to you I think) and DD has gone to Northumbria so she's only about 15 miles away. :o

When we dropped her off last week, I pretended to myself that she was just away for a sleepover. :o I managed to keep the tears in when we left her but I had a little cry when I got home. Once she's settled and you know she's having a good time it does get easier.

  • My daughter's been gone a week now, and during the week I was fine but this weekend I've really struggled. I think it's realising that it wasn't just a few days, and it's now sinking in. I wouldn't mind, but we actually drive each other mad when we're together!

Ah looby you haven't abandoned her and you haven't failed her in any way by not taking her.

Look at it this way, not only is a massive change in your relationship with your daughter but it's a huge step in her relationship with her boyfriend as well.

As its so close why not arrange to meet up in a couple of weeks so she can tell you all about it?

  • First week over, although he's been home twice for things he'd forgotten! We only live 40 miles away. I'm missing him dreadfully tonight for some reason, even though if he was here he would be in his room on his laptop or watching telly but it's still horrible, he's great though and enjoying himself, some of his friends here have been To visit him and he's made done new uni friends.
Luckily I've still got my DD at home (she's 8) otherwise I'd have to talk to my other half

Thanks everyone. I've calmed down a bit now (thanks to help from some tablets the doc gave me for when I get very stressed, I'm currently on the sick because of anxiety and depression)

DD text me to tell me she's getting ready for her first night of freshers week, pandamonium, apparently they all get face painted as pandas and go on a pub crawl lol

I called round to see my son at his grandparents for a hour earlier too which helped and I've kept myself busy getting the house ready for the council coming at 7.30 tomorrow to start the refurb *gulp*

I've just sat down for a bit of a break before finishing off the kitchen and sods law it's the big fat quiz of the 90's on the tv ......something dd and I were planning to watch together before we realised it was the night she went to uni. Doesn't matter what I do today something sets me off again
  • I packed my daughter off to Leeds Met a couple of weeks ago and spent the first week crying as I just missed her being around as she's such a loud and funny character. Have spoken to her loads though and am just a bit worried that she finds it hard to motivate herself and get moving.

She's settled in fine, already made some really good friends and feels safe and happy there. She's a fab cook so she did home made spag bol on the first night for her roomies, then a Sunday dinner for all 5 of them on the Sunday and tonight, she's done home made butter chicken & rice for 10 people. She'll never starve that's for sure :-)

A lot of her nights out are finishing at about 6am and she's struggling with getting her backside out of bed.

I'm enjoying the fact that I still have cans of coke in the fridge almost a week after doing the shopping, my choccies aren't touched, the kitchen isn't a wreck every day with her culinary efforts and I can do the washing in about a quarter of the time. I still miss her lots but it'll probably drive me nuts when she comes back as she'll trash the place within minutes again :-)

She's 24 miles away so you must, MUST make plans to meet up soon. It will give you something to look forward to when you think of her, rather than being upset :j

DS is in Salford, only 15 miles away, thank goodness. He's been home with laundry, requesting a Big Shop, already :o

I think her bank card for her student account will be coming here, so I'll arrange to meet up with her when it arrives, it will probably not be until next week though. By that time she'll know what time her lectures are etc.

They aren't allowed any overnight guests in their halls (I wonder how long that lasts lol) so she'll probably go to her boyfriends house (10 miles away from where she is) most weekends so I doubt I'll see her at home for ages.
