Who's got a child off to Uni this month?

My daughter's off to Manchester on Saturday, and we're pretty much sorted now. I've tried to be as money saving as I can, but still spent a pretty penny, and hopefully have given her an idea of how to manage her money, but I'm still going to miss her like mad! ( Even if we drive each other up the wall..) Anyone else in the same boat?

Only my step-granddaughter, and we're not really involved in any of the preparations because we live too far away. She's not moving far from home, to Derby from Nottingham, her school at Repton. We couldn't be prouder of her if we tried. She's going to be reading Biological and Medicinal Chemistry.
Manchester has an excellent reputation - good luck to your daughter!Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.
Before I found wisdom, I became old.0 -
I'm taking DS1 to Durham on Sunday 30th. He will be reading Natural Sciences (Maths and Physics).
Just starting to get together the things he'll need.
If he has half as good a time as I did 35 years ago he'll have the time of his life. I don't have any concerns about him, he is very mature and sociable, and I think it will be a brilliant opportunity to 'be himself'.0 -
Have a wife off to uni instead0

Aren't there two universities in Manchester?:)
But if you mean the place itself then, yes, Manchester is a brilliant place. I really enjoyed living and working there.0 -
Yes there is manc met and manc. Manc is the higher performing than the net, but both have good results.

It tends to come higher in league tables, but actually they just have very different histories and specialise in different subjects. Man Met is brilliant for things like fashion and textiles and education, Manchester is great for the sciences.
Both are excellent, I know because I've been to both.0 -
Im starting my third and final year this month!
On the other side of the coin my parents call me every week without fail, worried im not feeding myself! (i love food).
They have never asked me about money!!! its just 'what have you eaten?!'.
Parents reading this, trust me your child will eat!!0 -
We took our son to Manchester yesterday, he will be studying chemical engineering. I'm so proud of him but I am really going to miss him (I'm not going to miss his constant requests for refreshments though :rotfl:) he says he has already met loads of people so sounds like he is going to have a great time.0
