Does UMIST still exist?
Nope. I started at UMIST and when I left it was all Manchester. So my degree says Manchester. But to honest the only thing that changed for me was that when we did exams some of them were held in 'Manchester' buildings which was really annoying as I lived near the UMIST buildings! But all the lessons and stuff were kept in the UMIST buildings because thats where all the labs and stuff were.
I didnt mind that it changed because Manchester is up there with the other red brick uni's whereas not everyone has heard of UMIST. And everyone was always very quick to say they went to Manchester and not the Met
Having said that, the Met does some very good fashion and textile courses like Person One said. But then so does the bit of Manchester that was UMIST, hence why I went there.
I loved Manchester as a city. Its the perfect place for a student.
I just couldnt stand the weather!0 -

Glad to hear it mustbe. Which halls is he in? DD is in Ashburne, which wasn't her first choice, but she seems quite happy with it now. She's doing theology, philosopy and ethics.
A lot of DD's friends are staying in Liverpool to go to Uni. It's a great place to be a student. I think she will be home every couple of weeks as her boyfriend is still here, but I'm hoping to go and have lunch with her, and do a bit of shopping once a term...
He is in oak house which was his first choice, it's the party hall by all accounts so I hope he still manages to get some work done!0 -
We've just dropped our youngest off at her halls, the house feels empty already. Me and OH have just worked out that it's almost 26 years since it's been just us two. Eldest left a few years ago and now the baby has gone.
DD is only about 15 miles away so it's not too bad, far enough for her to have some independence and experience student life but close enough if she needs us.Dum Spiro Spero0 -

Oh yes, I believe so! She wanted an ensuite so didn't put that down, but she hasn't got an ensuite now anyway.0 -
We're taking DS3 back to Glamorgan on Monday for his second year - History. DS1 and DS2 went away to university and came back at various points. Currently they are both living here - no peace for the wicked!
