Enjoy the peace and the full fridge - they'll be back before you know it!:D[0 -

We're taking DD3 to Cumbria on Sunday, she is so much the chatterbox of the family that it is going to be so quiet without her.
All packing is done and we've discovered that after all she does have a carpet on her bedroom floor :rotfl:
Now looking at all the bags and boxes and wondering if the car is big enought, we're going to have fun on Saturday packing it all up as we're setting of early on Sunday morning.
My Dad always had to hire a van for my stuff. I never understood how my friend used to fit it all in her parents car - my clothes would have pretty much filled up the boot let alone all my kitchen stuff, tv (before flat screen!) computer, printer etc!louise3965 wrote: »Just dropped dd1 off today at her shared house in Manchester. She's at the uni there and starting her second year. She liked her first year and stayed in Oak House halls but the novelty of 5am fire alarms and 247 party people wore off by bonfire night!
Ah yes the fire alarms at uni. You could guarantee one person would always be in a towel having just come out of the shower :rotfl:My friend got so paranoid about it she used to keep a bag with essentials in, plus her shoes pointing in the right direction next to her bed, just incase! And in the first term I used to shower so fast, just incase!0 -
Spoke and FaceTime today she is loving Lancaster.facebooked me a picture of her first meal she cooked, pasta with sauce.we all really miss her but I think she ready to fly the nest.0

My daughter is off to Uni tomorrow and I'm really struggling to hold back the tears already.
I'm a lone parent and have been for the last 8 years so we have become quite a team, her brother calls her his second mum lol (there are 8 years between them) I'm going to miss her like mad........that daft thing is she's only going 24 miles away. She off to study biomedical Genetics at Newcastle university, we live just outside Durham
Any wise words for me to make it easier to handle missing her?0 -
My DS2 started at Manchester last week. He is in the Owen's Park tower - his choice not mine. He seems to have settled in well. DS1 has just come home from Manchester after 4 yrs (degree+ masters), so full of (un-) helpful advice.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Looby just remember that tomorrow will be the day that both you and her have been working towards since her 1st day at school.
Dropped Junior off at Swansea yesterday and I must admit I didn't get upset at all ....though I guess when he disappears abroad for a year (as part of his course) then it definitely will be a different case

well she's left, her boyfriend is taking her but he's only got a Ka so no room for me to go with them.
I feel like my heart has just been ripped out. I don't know how I'm going to cope without her. I'm all on my own as my son is moving in with his grandparents for the next two weeks as our house is getting a full refurb.
I know its a good thing she going to uni, she's worked so hard to get to this point and I feel so selfish for being so upset but I can't help it. I feel sick and I can't stop crying.0 -
Oh poor looby
I sympathise with you.
When my DS1 went away to university I think I grieved for nearly 2 years - and I still had two at home!:o I wasn't anywhere near as bad with the younger two. I think it's that it seems like the end of something very precious - their childhood, and the "complete" family.[0 -
You are not being selfish Looby - you have encouraged and helped her to go! You have helped her develope into the happy and self assured young woman she clearly is: you have not held her back for your own needs. That'snbeing a womnderful parent. The sadness you feel is absolutely natural. Be gentle with yourself (((hugs)))I know its a good thing she going to uni, she's worked so hard to get to this point and I feel so selfish for being so upset but I can't help it. I feel sick and I can't stop crying.I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0
