At the end of the day, a phone is a phone is a phone. My son traded his 4S in for a Samsung Galaxy Note the other day, because for what he uses a phone for, it is a much better device.
I have upgraded from an old Samsung Galaxy Portal to an HTC One S (made all the easier by the fact that by signing-in to my Google account, all my apps and contacts automatically transferred across with no further button-pushes from me). Having played with it, I think it is a load of pants as it doesn't have a micro-SD card slot, so have unlocked it with a view to moving it on.
When doing the upgrade I asked about a Windows phone only to be told 'you would be only the 5th person to go foe one of those since they launched'.
At the end of the day,
Apple iPhones just work. they have loads of accessories and apps (most of which are just clones of other apps with different names). Drop an iPhone (even from a low height) and the screen will more than likely crack due to the rigidity of the case.
Apple will happily accuse it's rivals of 'patent infringement' despite infringing several patents themselves (including a Nokia patent for the way a touchscreen works, and another regarding the use of downloadable apps for a mobile communications device). The next Court case will involve Google suing Apple for patent infringement over the use of 'voice control on a mobile phone'.
Android will continue to be the most popular OS to stick on a mobile as it is free, so the phone manufacturer doesn't have to factor-in the cost of a COA for the OS, the saving can be as much as £50 per device.
Android will continue to mature with each release getting faster.
MS WP8 will always be a minority OS because 'people are prepared to use Windows on a PC, but see to many security holes to want to risk it on a phone'.
WP8 handsets will be almost given away on the cheapest contracts just to get shot of them. This, despite the OS being more than competent at working a mobile.
Anna-Belle (formally Symbian) has proved it is still a serious OS with it's inclusion on Nokia's flagship Mobile with 47Mp camera, but it will still remain a minority OS.
Would I use an iPhone instead of an Android powered one ?. Only when Apple stop being such control-freaks and allow people to use their phones without fear of the Applemonster deleting an app 'just because the developer is no longer flavour of the month'.Never Knowingly Understood.

This is a point a lot people seem to forget.Apple will happily accuse it's rivals of 'patent infringement' despite infringing several patents themselves (including a Nokia patent for the way a touchscreen works, and another regarding the use of downloadable apps for a mobile communications device). The next Court case will involve Google suing Apple for patent infringement over the use of 'voice control on a mobile phone'.
Plus it covers just about every price range and iOS only covers the high end and mid range.Android will continue to be the most popular OS to stick on a mobile as it is free, so the phone manufacturer doesn't have to factor-in the cost of a COA for the OS, the saving can be as much as £50 per device.
I don't understand that arguement, you hear plenty of people banging on about Android malware and it hasn't had any effect on the sales. I would suggest that most people don't know or don't care about malware on their phones.MS WP8 will always be a minority OS because 'people are prepared to use Windows on a PC, but see to many security holes to want to risk it on a phone'.
I don't think that there will be any trouble selling the Samsung Ativ S and the Nokia Lumia 920, especially with some people disappointed by the iPhone 5. If the prices are low it will be down to Microsoft wanting to gain marketshare rapidly IMO.WP8 handsets will be almost given away on the cheapest contracts just to get shot of them. This, despite the OS being more than competent at working a mobile.
It's can take photos up to 38Mp, the sensor is a 41Mp one. I agree Symbian is still a serious OS (as is Meego, but that's another story), but Nokia and crucially, the networks/retailers, aren't interested. The fact you can't buy the 808 on contract proves how uninterested the networks are in it.Anna-Belle (formally Symbian) has proved it is still a serious OS with it's inclusion on Nokia's flagship Mobile with 47Mp camera, but it will still remain a minority OS.0 -

I follow an awful lot of technology, apple just being part of it. The iphone was the phone which started the new era of smartphones, so of course im going to follow it! This thread is about expectations and the iphone 5 didnt meet mine. I was hoping for it to be a Galaxy S3 beater, but in my own opinion it didnt happen. Maybe the iphone 6 will move me across.
I dont understand why you call me an iphone hater!! Nor do I understand why you say I follow it religiously!
Seriosuly, get a grip man!
Is the galaxy s3 another phone you haven't used or owned?0 -

Or "iPhone 5 - Lets all worship the apple god"
It was exactly what I was expecting.. lots of hype and marketing over a phone that is, at best, underwhelming.
I see how the iPhone haters all like each others comments too. :rotfl:0 -
I'm not a Apple hater, I've had a 3GS and even the 5 specwise is poor as 4 was onwards, I'm a bit of technology geek & consumer not a hater but certainly 5 has not made me a lover.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe

Well in financial commitment to Apple yes but thats just Apple marketing, in reality poor specs for overinflated costs is the real world. So back to reality who is poorer in both senses ? The i5 owner or another smartphone owner ?

Liam, just because people disagree with you and have opinions about the iphone 5, dosent make them an "iphone hater". Maybe if you stopped calling everyone that with a different opinion to yours people might take you more seriously.Truth is, everything else is the poor mans iPhone.
:rotfl:
Take the leading android phone, the Galaxy S3. Cheaper to buy and much better specs
The days of iphone leading the way are over. Apple fans dont want to admit it and only seem to find comfort it bad mothing another mobile operating system.0 -

Exactly APPLE brought by influence great glass responsive touch screens to the masses, iOS has nothing against Windows Phone 8 operating system...it led it got lazy, now many manufacturers with Android or Windows Phone lead the way.
As for Samsung Galaxy III, good call powerful_Rouge but i'm holding out for THEE mobile of 2012 - a Samsung Galaxy Note-esque mobile with Windows 8 & calling features or with Windows Phone 8 :cool:SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies...
