iPhone 5 - what are we expecting?

I was looking at options with Orange. My concerns, not which handset to get, that will be the 64gb, Will probably get the unlimited connection too.
WHY
Currently, on the 15 per months deal sim only with 3gs
With LTE, 4g its going to be rapid, so at "lunch" at work, I can stream some BBC shows, or watch a series all week, rather than look at the BBC news website, stream some radio, or podcast while walking round the lake.
I can back up my photos on the move, so if it gets lost, then a backup from Icloud will be "upto date". Too many horror stories of just restored my phone and lost all the pics threads.
I went over my mins the other month of only 200 mins (although use about 1000 as magic numbers) and it cost me an additional 10 quid. for not a lot of usage.
I dont use the phone as much as id like and im keep to end calls sometimes due to limitations. As people move from Orange and Magic numbers no longer used I get a kick in the nuts.
Sat nav Updates on my car will cost circa £300, this will mean I dont need to. Sat Nav on the car is cool, but its not Tom Tom. It was also standard with the car. I can use the phone on my Mountain bike, Motor Bike, or Walking.
A new Ipod will cost £100 for me, as 3GS 16gb will not last forever now as hasnt that much capacity.
I can watch F1 out and about on Sky Go... happy days, no more fighting with the missis about whether to go out, benefit... priceless.
I will not need to browse the net at work, as I can use the phone... no one cares.
I will be able to tether to Ipad... (not sure of cost) but would be cheaper than 3g contract on Ipad monthly for the few times I want to do it.
I can download films from BBC iplayer and programs to watch on plane, negating the need to buy TV usage (entertainment). Or use Ipad as extra battery... but still.
Its my personal trainer... it will since my calories and exercise, and keep the weight off ive gladly lost... worth every penny 3GS getting a little slow now, which means im not as hot about it as I should be.
I need to use a diary... thats reliable.
I can get my work email on it, and get work to contribute once I send this rubbish blackberry back, never turn it on lately.
Its a one stop shop.

Sat Nav

Years ago we used to pay seperately for all these...
for example
Sat Nav £350 tom tom 910 Updates £30 quid a year ish
Phone £200 Sony Ericsson useful for 18 months MAX
Xbox £300
Games £40 per game
Digital Camera £250 - 550 (both redundant apart from SLR occasionally)
Kindle £100
Walkman/ipod £100
Camcorder £650
Dongles £20 per month for data, to get email/internet
This phone, is a one stop shop that replaces them all with one device that you will ALWAYS have on you or Near you.
I think its a bargain... after two years it will still be worth £300 quid, as its apple, and supported and updated regularly... same can be said of s3? dont think so...
You can all abuse what I have said, but just giving you some thoughts, and all the prices of those things above are of things I have brought, and paid good cash for, and not had something subsidised that will cost circa £1k for over 2 years.
I had Android so has my gf, as the Memory full problem, too many apps, its just not effective, the move to SD function, the apps not supporting certain devices... really... Im just not interested, id rather someone else sort all that out... aka APPLE. ill pay them 69p if it means I know the app will work. Who cares...
I filled my car up today it cost nearly 80 quid... get a more economical car I hear you say... I averaged 55mpg. 65 on a run, its the biggest family estate car you can reasonably buy. Im happy.
People should worry more about fuel costs, than the most important device everyone needs in their life.
I think it looks mega, it will feel mega and will function just as I have been used to... I like change if its better, not just for the sake of it.Plan

Disagree with this to an extent. Whilst iOS is polished and very nice to use (especially on an iPad), to say it's much more refined than any other mobile operating system is pushing it a bit. I've used Windows Phone extensively (on the LG Optimus 7) and it feels at least as polished and refined as iOS to me.
i've used WP7 for around 10 months. It is awful - not as bad as android but still awful0 -

Video Camera
..takes *much* worse pictures than even a modest compact camera.
..that doesn't match a decent MP3 player for sound.Music
..but not as easy to use as a tablet or PCBrowser
..but nowhere near as good or convenient as a garmin GPS watchPersonal Trainer
..that's certainly no kindle...Book readerGames Machine
That plays games a couple of generations old on a tiny screen with tinny crappy sound. This phone, is a one stop shop that replaces them all with one device that you will ALWAYS have on you or Near you.
I get what you're saying, but in reality the phone's *not* a replacement for very many of those devices at all, for most it's "nice as a backup" at best...If I actually got rid of all the things you listed and just used my phone, the quality of my life would decrease significantly...0 -
Good luck with that 4G reception around your lakeWith LTE, 4g its going to be rapid, so at "lunch" at work, I can stream some BBC shows, or watch a series all week, rather than look at the BBC news website, stream some radio, or podcast while walking round the lake.
Last week, whilst at a motorway service station, on 'regular' 3G (the high speed variety) I managed to setup a shared wifi network on my HTC Desire HD and watch live TV on my iPad 2. Who needs stinking 4G?
We don't need 4G - we need a more consistent 3G network.
Sat Nav £350 tom tom 910 Updates £30 quid a year ish Mine's built into the car (no extra cost). Before that, I had a £90 one that worked pretty well
Phone £200 Sony Ericsson useful for 18 months MAX I've only once paid for a phone on a contract in 10 years of ownership - £30
Xbox £300 A phone does not replace a console. Especially a touch screen one. It's about casual games for on the move
Games £40 per game See above
Digital Camera £250 - 550 (both redundant apart from SLR occasionally) I've yet to see a camera phone image be as good as an 'actual' camera with it's itty-bitty lens
Kindle £100 4" screen. Hope you've got good glasses
Walkman/ipod £100 I'll keep my 5 year old iPod classic thanks - and enjoy my 80gb of music on the move. Unless you buy a top end iPhone and cram it with music, it won't replace it
Camcorder £650 I might give you this - since it's typically been pointless to buy a camcorder for most people. The price is a bit extortionate though...
Dongles £20 per month for data, to get email/internet I thought your phone does browsing and email? Why do you need another device
Look, it's a phone/mini-computer - it's not the messiah. I'm not anti-apple or even very pro-android. It'd just be nice for once to get people to accept they are not 'needed' and they are actually a luxury toy0 -

Meh, while I'm with you on the "it's not the messiah" thing, I will say that I'd *really* struggle without some kind of smart phone...I certainly view it as more than a luxury toy...I view it a bit like an appliance...yes, I could live without the washing machine...but I wouldn't want to.0 -
hold on. you are saying a phone(any phone) is a replacement for an Xbox?
I still have a dedicated Sat Nav,it lives in the car. you know, where I'm going to use it
another vote for a dedicated MP3 player. in my case ipods. the main being a 160gb ipod classic
Kindle replacement? come on. yes you can read on the phone screen, but its no rival
diary, email etc. basic functions that phones have covered for years
camera, well its fine for random snaps, however for days out etc I want decent quality0 -
I want decent quality
This is the trouble with kids these days
- everything's becoming so disposable...they don't care about picture quality, sounds quality...the photos just need to be good enough to stick on facebook, the music's going to be played through tinny little headphones anyway.
Makes me sad, really

Agree! I know we all survived without smartphones before they came out, but I agree, I would not be without one now, it is an integral part of my day to day life.0 -

Couldn't you make the same argument of my parents, whose photos from their early married years are all in fairly crappy quality polaroid prints, when there were much better cameras available at the time?!
And I don't think "the kids" really need all their photos of themselves posing in the mirror, getting !!!!ed on white lightning at the rec, and sunburned in ibiza in the very best quality out there!!0 -

No, they don't...but when you get people saying that they don't need a camera, because they've got one on their phone...you realise that all the photos of their youth are going to be...poor, shall we say.
And I wonder if your parents had / could afford an alternative? If so, then yes, you can make completely the same argument. So I guess it's not just "kids today"
