    I'm trying my post again, as the iPad is playing up this morning, it went something like this;

H - I'm pleased there is some improvement in your FIL, however I do agree with Cal, AJ and Greent. We all joke that you do things at 100 miles an hour and pack so much into an already packed day, just as you said in your post; your life and being able to spend quality time with your family is more important than ANYTHING.

Regretfully I worked very long hours (in a different profession to the one I'm in now) when my children were only little and I quite honestly have nothing to show for it ..... mortgage is still there, and we never even had any fab holidays. Looking back I didn't even get paid overtime (I was well zipped up the back!)

  • What a lovely group you all are. Thank you. xxx

Spent most of day in bed, feeling really tired and headachy, suspect more to do with work then anything else. Daves very supportive and money isn't the issue, as both recognise that need to address this as my work life is unsustainable. Will be addressing tomorrow.

He visited his dad, who seems to be in fine, normal for him, victor meldrew form, hes taking tomorrow off to do some bits for his mum and then take her to visit.

  • Good luck tomorrow HDK, it's easy to get sucked into the over working thing. Take care, say no when necessary and glad you had a relaxing day.

    Glad FIL is doing well.

    Best wishes Tilly x x

  • I'm glad for you and your family that your fil has had such a successful response to his health difficulties. An incredible difficult time for you. I am struck by the lack of compassion given to you under these circumstances at work. don't feel I have anything more I can add to what others have said.

But I'm going to anyway! Once today has gone it is past - not recoverable. Enjoy / savour this time with your family. A hug to all of you.

  • If there is anything I have learn't in my life it is that NO-ONE EVER laid on their death bed and said "I wish I spent more time at work".

Work is a means to an end, period. If you can tolerate your job (me) then good. If you actually enjoy your job, even better. But for jobs to 'define' and shape who you are and what you feel like every day, is for my way of thinking, a step beyond.

You are only employed and therefore at work to satisfy the need of your employer to have a task fulfilled and to satisfy your need to obtain money to exchange for the necessities of life, nothing more than that. I find 'work-life' balance a trite phrase as it means nothing. Your life is your life, it needs no balancing. But how you prioritise your time is more pertinent. Work in order to live, never live in order to work.

Wishing you the best in addressing things in your own way.

Still a bit in the air. My job share very upset and so desperately trying to find a workable compromise. Have several options on the table, its a matter of what would be the best for everyone. I am prepared to give as much as I can but decisions need to be made as I can't go on as is. My boss has agreed I can work my hours over 4 days not 5, also whether my JS and me take an area each rather than sharing both. The downside is one area is easy and one very hard, hence ongoing discussion. Very mentally tiring day, with a few tears shed on every side.

Managed to visit FIL, as nipped over to that campus, and he looks lots better. DH took day off to help his mum with jobs and also to take her again. We both have tomorrow off, his planned to look after girls, me as TOIL (as agreed with boss). All girls have a friend sleeping over.

Glad things looking a bit brighter. I agree with the others, you and your family are the most important things so here's hoping for a speedy conclusion.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

My JS is one of my 3 best friends, and my other best friend has enough problems at the moment having split with her LT partner (and father to her 3 kids) so I am finding it hard as really need to download. Fortunately Daves my 3rd Best friend (and "first") so is very supportive. My Boss is definitely someone I class as a friend too but it does put her in a position as my role is fairly key.

On the MF positive, 1st of the month is OP day. May need to reevaluate amounts next month though as think I am cutting us to short.
