This happened to a friend of mine. Only she was taking out £4000 and the bank gave her £5000. She did not realise until the bank rang her and she counted the money. She owned up straight away. They siad could you please drive back to the bank and ive it back. She said, no if you want it come and get it, I'm not driving all the way back there cos you made a mistake. Sure enough, within the hour she had someone at the door collecting the money.Politeness is free, it costs nothing!0

I feel quite strongly that should the boot be on the other foot the bank would not credit your money. With out first doing some checks. e.g. counting the money in the till at the end of the shift to see if it is £100 over etc. Perhaps you should ask for checks of your own as you had put the money in your bag with other money, been shopping, etc. so would not know if you had recieved more money. I would ask to see the cctv footage the bank says is proof. and then as the signs always say. "check your change B4 you leave the counter as mistakes cannot be rectified later!" surly that works both ways.0

A similar thing happened to me. I wrote to the bank in question demanding they send me on a safari in Kenya to help me recover from the trauma of giving me too much money then asking for it back.
I am still waiting for a reply, but even now 5 years on, I have not given up hope that my request for compensation will be honoured. I have not been able to work since that fateful day, my pet tortoise ran away with the milkman and my TV stopped working two years after the incident. This has very badly affected me, my family and everybody I know. I feel very badly let down by my bank."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0
