Last week I ordered a food processor from Tesco Direct. When I opened the box, they had mistakenly sent me two. I phoned immediately, explained and today, their courier picked it up from me. I could have said nothing and nobody any the wiser. However, my reputation for honesty would have been damaged in my OWN eyes and I would not have wanted to risk that some poor underpaid soul in a packing place somewhere would be suspected of dishonesty when the stock count didn't tally.

Finding a £1 coin in the pocket of a charity shop jacket is one thing - deliberately walking out of a bank with £100 mistakenly given you is quite another, in my opinion. My second opinion is that, despite what you appear to think, there are still many, many honest people in this country. You might be wise to emulate them.

The bank assistant made a mistake. He/she will have probably got in a lot of trouble. You tried to pull a fast one and now are only angry cos you got caught out.

As for the cash machine, perhaps. Perhaps we all would but that doesn't mean its the right thing to do.
