Sorry, once you notice the mistake, have been asked to return the money and refuse to do so - it's theft.

i have just been to my bank at about 12pm and i asked for £150, my book was printed and it said i had withdrawn £150, along with the slip i signed. the assistant then counted out £250 and handed it over to me. i thought she had misheard me and taken £250 out of my accoutn so i didnt bother saying anything.

So you were aware at the counter that a mistake had been made, but you didn't point it out at the time? I don't think that you have a very strong position here, to be honest...

yes, i did see the assitant count out £250, but i assumed she had misheard me and taken £250 out of the book. i have emailed them anyway, i expect a goodwill gesture soon enough. how is it theft? the lady counted the money out and knew exactly the amount she was giving me! she was the theif, she was stealing from her employers!

But according to your first post, while still at the counter you saw that the figure in the book was £150, not £250.

if you were given the chance, wouldnt you take the extra money? i dont think many people these days would say ''i think you have overpaid me £100'

So basically you are now admitting that you're an opportunist thief. Nice one

What makes you feel you were robbed? You were given an extra £100 by mistake, the bank have asked for it back & you have agreed to give them it. You have lost nothing, the bank have lost nothing......end of story. If you had pointed out the mistake at the time it happened it could have been sorted out there & then. In my opinion you made a mistake in not doing so.

in fact yes i do, if im in a shop and i notice the shopkeeper giving me more change than should be, i'd also state the same if they underpaid me.

if i find money in the street then fine.

but don't forget whether there fault or not, you knew you had incorrect amount therefore should have said something.
