There's some nice parks in Cardiff, for long walks and a picnic. Bute park, taff trail, roath, cosmeston lakes etc.
I like St Fagans - not sure it's your thing. Live Lounge in town have cheap nights and live bands which i personally love.
Theres the Globe in Roath which have gigs from some well known people cheap for tickets and super cheap drinks. Also Chapter Arts Centre have a cinema and are cheaper than the Odeon.
At the weekends, Ogmore, the Gower, The mumbles are all beautiful places to visit and will only be a train fare awayDFW Nerd #awaiting number - Proud to be dealing with my debts!
Dont cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

Ok, I understand that, but it sounds like he's looking forward to it and as others have said, it's a good way to test your relationship. Better to find out now, than a couple of years down the line when you've moved in together, discovering that you don't get on.
Try not to be so hard on yourself.
I know. I'm excited for it. but nervous regarding money, I do have spare money after board and bills etc just I can't take us to decent places. I took him for a kebab on chip alley. He was kind and said he has been surviving on kebabs and curries.
I was thinking of the valleys and the coast. Ive lived here all my life and never been Barry Island haha! Are you going to have time together at weekends to do stuff or will he be working every day?
If you have time off, show him the highlights of South Wales - whatever you like, whether it is the mountains, the valleys or the coast. Lots of great places to spend a quiet (and not that expensive) day. You could even go to Barry Island for the day
If you both like shopping or a change from Cardiff, then Bristol and Swansea aren't too far away.SavingPennies wrote: »I assume you live with your mum? Even on minimum wage you must have a bit of spare cash, so like she suggests you could treat him every now and then, just a small gesture like a coffee and cake. Walks round the park sounds great and are inexpensive and romantic, give him the gift of your local knowlege and show him the sights.
However, I would personally not be getting into the habit of doing his washing!
If he wants to spend his money on you thats his choice, he obviously loves spending time with you and doesnt mind paying.
I do take him for costa. Would it be inappropiate if I was to put a costa on his desk at work?
Why would you not do it? I just want him to be comfy, Knowing him if I said he would offer to pay me for it etc. I know he does, I really feel bad I can't contribute on the same level.
I know he says I don't have to, I feel bad when he pays, he says his credit card gives him money, would they really? I just don't want him going short if you get me
I like the idea of bute park, I know he has worked there many of times when he just wants to get out of his office.
He will be off weekends and I am on shift work, he has said he would mimic my shifts.0 -

We get staff discount in the Odeon, Which can be used with Orange Wednesdays.
I was thinking if he is upto it to go mango house as he is saying they have booked him in the Holiday Inn across the way from Bute Park and theyve got him on the 5am train

Keep work and your personal life totally seperate. Don't leave notes on his desk or turn up to work with a suitcase on his first day!
Even if you are on the minimum wage then if you are living at home I don't see why you can't largely pay your way.0 -

Absolutely. Have your Costas at weekends, you may think it's a cute thing to do, but I'm fairly sure that the rest of the office will be sniggering at him if you start doing stuff like that. Apart from which, it's unprofessional on your part!
When at work you should only interact with him in the way that you would interact with anyone else that has his job - if your job roles don't need to communicate then leave it until non-work time.0 -

True about the sniggering, Some already do! We do keep work seperate, I'm just thinking of nice things to do for him if you get me?
I do pay about half my wages to help my mum, She has 3 of us to look after all on her own, so I do give half my wage to make things easier. How do you know she doesn't pay her mum the going rent?

A couple of free places to visit nearby are St. Fagans museum and Southerndown. Southerndown is where they film the beach scenes on Dr Who and it's a good place to go fossil hunting. There's also a little shop selling ice creams and tea and coffee etc.
St. Fagans is great and you can spend a whole day there exploring all the old houses and the grounds are lovely for a picnic if the weather is nice.
I second these places. Southerndown also has a walled garden where you can sit and have a nice relaxing picnic. I'm particularly fond of Southerndown as it's where Mr Imp proposed
We did long distance for quite a few years, and it was hard work, but worth it in the end. He'll appreciate the little things you do - the washing up, tidying up, making him sandwiches etc.
I hope it all goes well.0 -
