  • For those of you thinking of joining online - because I live overseas I joined online last year and I have to say I found it a complete waste of money, especially once I'd found this forum. There is absolutely no support given with the online membership.

There are so many people who are members of groups here and have online access and access to syn values and everyone is only too happy to help look them up for you.

There are many complaints about how bad some of the consultants are so if possible leave the group and join another one and at the same time write to SW and voice your complaints - you're paying good money to them and it's their responsibility to make sure that their consultants are well-trained.

The website is not good and that's something else they should know about. I wrote to them about it and wasn't given any reply at which time I cancelled my subscription.

The BEST support is right here and totally MSE-friendly!!

  • Sorry for filling up the thread this morning but as lots of people are looking for winter-warming food at the moment thought I'd share a recipe that I put together the other day -

    Country Vegetable and Barley Soup

1 cup pearl barley with 3 cups weak stock
    2 small onions, diced
    2 large carrots, diced
    1 leek, thinly sliced
    1 turnip, diced
    2 stalks celery, thinly sliced
    1 handful of parsley, chopped
    1 tsp dried oregano
    2 bayleaves
    1 tsp sweetener
    1 tin chopped tomatoes
    2 tblspns tomato puree
    8 cups stock
    seasoning

Cook the barley in the weak stock for about 25 mins until cooked.
In a separate pan, saute all the vegetables in some frylight until softened.
Add all the other ingredients except the barley and bring to the boil.
Cover and simmer for 50-60 mins.
Remove the bayleaves and serve the soup in bowls with barley.

Normally I use Knorr chicken stock cubes but I couldn't get them this week so bought Indian-flavoured ones instead - this gave a really nice flavour to the soup.

I did check that take-away book rfd and the duck rolls aren't free. It looks to me as if most/all the syns are in the wraps not the filling. The burgers are free as I suspected, not much more to them than extra lean mince.

    .

Thanks maman. I thought that the duck rolls couldnt be syn free.

I'm having my last wisdom tooth out today :( Another few days of eating porridge and mashed banana which will probably mean a gain next week. Oh well.

  • RFD - that looks like a green day to me so you could have extra HEx

    Mortgage Aug 22 £280,000
    Current mortgage  £28,000

  • Morning,

Welcome to the new people

Macpep- hope you're feeling better and they find out what is wrong quickly *hugs*

kjm - hope the extraction isn't too painful. Could you have some soup or mashed potato etc as a change from the porridge?

Smithyjules - I agree with what everyone else has said, you shouldn't feel hungry doing SW. Would your hubby have time for a more substantial breakfast, e.g. eggs on toast or bacon, or add fruit to the cereal? I know toast wouldn't keep me full for long, nor would weetabix alone, so I would have say poached eggs, toast and tomatoes or weetabix and a banana. I know you said you haven't got into the 1/3 superfree yet but if you are going to follow EE you should be having fruit or veg with every meal- part of the purpose of this is to naturally rreduce the amount of other foods consumed but the extra bulk also makes you feel fuller. Saying that, your other meals look fine, although I would say syns are there to be used! :)

I feel for you on the bread front - had unsliced seeded at MILs at the weekend and it was gooooood! I don't eat a lot of bread now but buy a small Hovis wholemeal and keep it in the freezer for toast. Tend to have more wholemeal pitta breads (1 for HEB) as they are just a bit more interesting. Re. milk- would you be able to wean your OH off FF milk, maybe dilute it a bit each day? I only say that as you don't get much as an allowance. We used to have semi but now get the 'orange' milk as it's hardly any different but you get 300ml as HEA - I measure it out in the mornings and take it to work then home again so I don't go over. Can't and won't do skimmed- have some at the moment as that was all that was in the shop and it's like cloudy water :rotfl: Good luck, and feel free to ask more questions!

    EE for me today:
    B: Bran flakes (B), milk (A), raspberries
L: Pasta, roast veg, pesto (1), nectarine
T: Pork stroganoff (2), rice, cauli
    S: Mullerlight

Have a good day all :)
