Hi all
Well done losers, and welcome / welcome back new (and not so new)bies.
Better day for me today; had another wee bit of ice cream but not a lot and that has been my only syns today. Maman my main passion is red wine but I have made myself stop drinking at home unless we have visitors so I need to transfer my syns to something else and B&J ice cream is yum. I can't have chocolate as I wouldn't be able to control it, and crisps & nuts don't really do it for me.
When I'm 90 I'm gonna spend my life lying in a hot bubble bath drinking red wine and eating chocolate and to hell with the weight gain :rotfl:... but until then I have 51 years of watching what I eatMortgage Aug 22 £280,000
Current mortgage £28,0000 -
Food today...
B. 2 weetabix (b), semi skimmed milk (a), banana & strawberries.
L. Low fat supernoodles, ham, large clementine & pear.
D. Very low syn sausages (1/2 syn for 3), sw wedges, poached eggs & baked beans.
2 litres water, tea.0 -

Thanks so much for the welcome!
Definitely don't go without syns!! I'm at target now and have had my 105 a week throughout. Some people have less but not me!:D
I'd really second that idea of the sample 7 day menu. There's one on the SW website and should be one in the books your friend lent you. There's always one in the SW magazine too. It'll give you loads of ideas.
Jackets do freeze well. I like to start them in the microwave, finish them off in the oven (when it's on for something else) and then freeze them. they defrost quickly and a ping in the microwave warms them through.
I watched Nigella's new programme and thought her meatzza would adapt well to SW:

I think she's lost weight too! It's very popular.;)0 -
Maman, how much weight did you lose?
My consultant told us not to go over 80 syns per week as this allows for hidden syns that you may not realise are in certain foods??
I've decided today that I'm going to do SW online instead. My consultant keeps giving the wrong syns value for things (I usually re-check online), she has her own clique at class and on the group FAcebook page I've asked her a few questions that she hasn't bothered replying to...even though she has been on Facebook posting photos and 'Liking' things.
I feel I get more help from forums like this!0 -

I lost 3.5 stone in 10 months. This averaged 1.5 lbs a week with a few gains for holidays. To be honest, I didn't count it out to exactly 105. As I said earlier I allowed 3 bottles of wine (76.5) and the remaining syns were for gravy and sauces throughout the week. To be honest except for that I found eating syn free was relatively straightforward.
If you've got all the books, why bother with online?0 -

Hi, I've just started Slimming World a couple of weeks ago lost 2lb then stayed the same, struggling to get into it really, not that i don't know the plan just a bit reluctant to give up the junk food! I just wonder if anyone else finds themselves spending a fortune on food because of the diet even though there's no special food to buy! Every time i've tried slimming world it happens. Does anyone manage to do the plan on the same budget they had before or have you found you spend more?
Once you get into it you're budget generally drops, I used to buy tins of chopped tomatoes (one of the fastest and quickest meal bases) now I go for the passata - twice as much for 1/2 the price and it's still syn free.If your doing the Extra Easy buy larger bags of pasta and rice... more for less usually and you will use it all
Like others have suggested buy frozen where you can. If you have a market day near you go to it mid afternoon if you can and get your fresh fruit and veg reduced - its the same stuff they were selling full price in the morning.smithyjules wrote: »Hi all,
I have been lurking for a few weeks now so hope you don't mind me joining in...a warning though I ask lots of questions!
I am here supporting my Hubby, who has a lot of weight to loose (although of course I love him to bits and he still lights my fire shall we say!). He has steadily gained weigh over the last 10 years and although he is a big tall fella who won't ever be skinny, his health and self-confidence are suffering lots.
I wouldn't mind loosing half a stone but I am along for the ride and hope to make this a fresh start for the whole family so it is easier for him.
There isn't a hope of him going to a group and to be honest our budget doesn't really stretch that far so I am relying on support and advise from my best friend who is a SW member (who has donated us some books etc) and hopefully you lovely ladies and gents here.
Our diet is actually quite balanced and I cook a lot from scratch thankfully so am hoping SW could be quite good for us. We have spent the last week delving into the books and being nosey on this thread and have made a start with counting syns and following EE. Payday is Friday so I plan to stock up on storecupboard essentials so start properly on Monday 1st October.
So far the main obstacles we have found is bread and hunger! We have always brought Warburtons Seeded Batch bread and going over to wholemeal has been quite traumatic lol! Is it me or does it just taste of nothing and have the texture of cardboard?! Any recommendations for HexB bread that is reasonably tasty?
Is the Hex B bread list in the food optimising book a strict list? eg. it doesn't mention weetabix just weetabix mini's (and from a budgeting point of view and to avoid weighing as much as poss, I prefer to buy own brand weetabix).
As for hunger we have both gone to bed famished the last two nights and inbetween meals too.
Yesterday Hubby had...
B: 2 slices wm toast with a scraping of marg (2 syns?)
L: Savoury Rice with sliced chicken.Salad (peppers, cucumber, lettuce, carrot, celery, new potatoes, pork steaks, sml amount of grated cheese (2 syns) and a little dressing (2 syns)
Snacks: mullerlight yoghurts x1, bananas x2, apples x2
FF Milk in coffee throughout the day (HexA
Today he had...
B: 2 weetabix (counting these as HexB until told otherwise) with milk (HexA)
L: Brown rice with bacon, peas and scrambled eggs, banana and apple.HM Celery soup (with extra veg thrown in) with bacon, potato skins (although more like wedges as I we were starved lol). Banana and mullerlight yoghurt.
Snacks: fruit
FF milk in coffee to finish of his HexA.
He is sitting here quite hungry poor boy and I'm not sure what to do! There are only so many apples and bananas he can eat and we can afford to buy lol!
I have written a novel and I would say I am sorry but I am quite in need of a helping hand right now and hope you can show me the way!:j
Make breakfast quiches (mostly eggs, bacon tomato and cottage cheese or quark) as a any time snack to keep in the fridge.
I would recomend to all new starters to make the most of the ONLINE food diary - it really helps with the Healthy Extra lists. For example, if you have 1 weetabix lathered with vanilla yoghurt bananas or other fruit that leaves you with 2 rivitas for later as a snack. Slap some FF cottage cheese on there and you have a syn free snack to beat the munchies.
Add pasta/lentils to soups for extra fillings. Chickpeas, beans, Three bean salad all make for good "chuck it in" additions to a meal too

I have the books, and am thinking the same thing.. as I am not sold on moving groups. But I will go online.. this delightfully grand thread will be my group, but the online will keep me focused too.
Silly I know as I could do with spendin the money elsewhere.0 -
Gosh you lot have been really chatty in the last day and a half while I've been away :rotfl:
Welcome to all the newbies and well done losers!I am back, pre-med was not anywhere near as bad as I had expected. Procedure didn't go great, I woke three times screaming in agony holding onto the bed guard, was told to take deep breath & breathe out slowly each time as they were nearly there. Long & short, everything is normal, back to consultant for next step, I am still convinced its a gynae problem.
Macpep I'm so sorry to read about your experience - that must have been so awful. I wasn't actually put to sleep last time and he actually made me watch it all on the screen!!! It's funny though (not the discomfort!!!!) because I also think that my problems are gynae-related - I just need to actually got off my backside and do something about it. :eek:weighed on today, lost another 1lb
why is it such slow going? i syarted 3 wks ago. 1 1/lb, then 2 lots of 1lb
HMC, I don't know how much you want to lose but 1lb a week is 52lb a year which is over 3 and a half stone. Hang in there - you're doing great.Mediterranean Mum
hoping to lose 50lb by February 2013! 2st lost so far :j0 -

Welcome and good luck to your hubby. One of my oldest and closest friends has lost over 9st in the last year with SW. He's a big guy too and will never be thin but he's doing so well - still has a long way to go.
He stayed with us a month or so ago and I was completely astounded by the amount of food he eats. I cooked completely SW for him as I'm also following SW but he had double helpings of everything - I can't eat even half of one portion of what he eats. He's steadily lost between 2-4 lbs every week.
TBH looking at your menus it's no wonder your hubby is hungry - there's not a lot of food there for a big guy.
What he has every day is -
B - a huge fry up with eggs, toast, baked beans, tomatoes
L - a large tuna or chicken salad sometimes with some pasta thrown in to bulk it up
D - roast chicken and roast potatoes (SW of course); or spaghetti bolognese; or lasagne; or a big stew - all with loads of veg
He eats lots of fruit in between and when they were here he was eating ice cream so is also generous with his syns.
Good luck and well done you for helping him - you'll not regret it.Mediterranean Mum
