  • Thank you for identifying where you are misinformed for us all to see.
The 'syns' in Slimming World do not stand for 'sins' it stands for 'synergy' and it is accepted that these are needed- in fact the method actually recommends including them in your daily plans.

Yes synergy the interaction of elements that when combined produce a total effect that is greater than the sum of the individual elements, Good old psychobabble strikes again. If they are so good why do they bear no correlation with good nutrition and amount of consumption?

Furthermore the concept actually relies on the age old 'everything in moderation' as well as encouraging members to increase their daily activity by offering a series of activity awards alongside the weight loss elements.

Everything in moderation apart from the syn free stuff and activity awards. Wow sounds like age old blue peter to me.

You mention the psychological effects upon members, my personal specialist area as a British Psychological Society accredited graduate as well as having a forensic psychology Masters degree,I understand your opinion however the group dynamics center around a culture of encouragement and support not a 'name and shame' culture. The presence of a peer group which has shared goals and a collective purpose actually aids rather than hinders an individuals progress.

Put into English this is making use of the herd mentality. dont lose weight make the whole herd look bad + feel personal guilt

And just to add, years ago when food had more fat there was less obesity as individuals were far more active with kids playing out and adults working hard, often manual, jobs meaning that they needed the additional fat. Society has changed and food is now lower in fat to meet with the different requirements of a modern lifestyle.

You miss out the bit about food being lower in fat but not in artificial chemicals and oh yes carbohydrates to make up the calorie loss and yes some (not all) are less active and so the extra carbs will be stored as fat.

Finally, as another member of this thread pointed out this is a lifestyle plan which is recommended by health professionals. Many doctors were in a scheme that could give overweight patients membership to a Slimming World group and 12weekly sessions free. The plan is also the only one recommended by midwives to pregnant women in the UK.

NRT is a plan recommended by the NHS on behalf of another big industry. Doesnt mean it is very effective though. Homeopathy can also be got on the NHS:rotfl:

But thank you for sharing your concerns and misconceptions - if you do have any questions about the plan please ask and I'm sure one of us will be able to answer.
I notice you failed to address any of the points about nutrition and essential fat or even addressing the reasons for overeating since you claim to be a psychologist.
Who I am is not important. What I do is.
  • Well it seems that the internet is preventing me from sharing as much as I would like.
Doing well with my Zumba - burning through over 300 calories in 20 minutes.:T :D Loving it, a really good way to get the endorphins going, makes you feel good about yourself in a positive, constructive way.:D:jIt's so easy to get bored and sit and do nothing but facebook and forums all day when all you have to keep you sane is a toddler that blathers nonsense ;)
Needed that as the 50 mile of walking to and from school every week is no longer scratching the surface.
I did the sums the other night, I have paid out £109.00 to lose the weight I have. Had a play on Food Focus ensured I'm in calorie count too...just to be sure.
So today's back to basics plan is
Pancakes, sausages and a strawberries drizzled in honey for Breakfast.
Chicken stew for lunch, with wholemeal pitta.
Cottage pie loaded with veggies for tea tonight...with keylime pie for pudding :):A
  • Can i suggest that we all ignore absolutebounder because they frankly have come on here to cause an argument which would be much more fun for me if they had to disappear and sulk without getting one.

Can anyone help me on my lentil issue in the slow cooker?

Oh God i haven't been on here for weeks and there is a shiny new thread - i thought i had been deserted. I have been on SW and EE for 4 weeks and I have lost 8lbs in that time so very very pleased.

I have dug my slow cooker out and i am going to cook a vegetable and lentil curry tomorrow (cooked that twice last week and i swear it is my weight loss secret as lots of super free and filling lentils.) Anyway i need some help from you peeps please,

Shall i cook the lentils first or put them in the slow cooker raw? I normally cook my curry in the oven and just add as much water as i think i need but i'll be at work all day and i am frightened that if i don't add enough water the lentils will soak it all up and start a fire in the slow cooker that or it will a hard congealed mess when i get in!

Am i getting myself in a state unnecessarily - quite new to the slow cooker lark!
:j Well done on the loss! I soak my lentils first ( when I get up while doing the kids packup and add them to the meat/veg before leaving) but i know others let the liquid in the cooker work, I find that leaves a taste.

Thanks Shellieholly, i might do that as well then i know they can't overcook, go to mush and set rock hard! I can just imagine how frustrated i'll be to get in from work starving really wanting a curry and i find its ruined The chip shop is so near to me that would be a nightmare SW wise.

Re the loss i have found it so easy, I have literally just had to make a few small changes to everyday foods and meals it is hardly noticeable. I went out for a meal last night and i had steak, jacket and salad. Normally pre-diet i would have had steak, salad, chips and onion rings. I find now i prefer the jacket!

  • Amie399 we have had lashing rain here today, really bad all day. I did take the dog out though on the bike and dragged my partners two kids along but we all looked like drowned rats when we got back. Saying that my ironing pile is also massive so i should start to tackle that but a wet bike ride held more appeal lol. x

    Hi everyone

A lovely day here so I took the kids swimming this morning which was lovely and must have tired the wee fella out cos he's snoring on the sofa while I have a sneaky 10 mins on here!

Well that's another alcohol, bread & chocolate free week nearly complete so fingers crossed for a decent weigh in tomorrow.

Looking forward to hearing how you all get on this week at WI, and here's to a harmonious time ahead on the thread now I have used my ignore button for the first time ;)

I found the carbs craving was down to eggs... try homemade quiche, egg fried rice omlettes..
Balanced diet was my primary reason for slimming world. Diets I can do on my own,( for 6 weeks :D) inspiration I can not. It worked out right for me ;)
CH27... keep at it. 16 syns today, 14 tomorrow, still balances at the end.

Thanks for the tip, I'll get cooking some egg-related munchies :D

Made better choices in the last two days but it would be wrong to say I followed the plan but definitely easing myself into it gently. Choosing home made syn free soup over a giant cheese sandwich was a good choice and one I probably wouldn't have made usually so slowly getting my brain engaged!

How did I forget that! Thank you so much.

All done! For those who don't know how - go to the name of the pain in the !!!!! (top left corner of post) and click on it. Menu appears with ignore option at the bottom. Click on that and said pain in the !!!!! disappears as if by magic to go and irritate another thread.
