I'm dying to dig in to some comfort food but have no idea where to start with making sure its all SW friendly. For example I have a million blonde moments like 'if I only use free/superfree ingredients does that mean the dish is free?' haha
Also, dying to get some porridge for colder mornings...next week maybe...but working out if I can make it free or low syn is a headache for me. Porridge oats aren't listed as a HeB but Ready Brek is :S

A common thing in my group is placing the oats in a bowl with one or two mullerlights or alternative syn free yog and placing in the fridge overnight. The oats absorb the yog and accordin to my son tastes better than standard porridge. You could slightly warm in microwave to take chill of it prefered.
Oooh yay! thank youWill be bringing oats back from my parents then to tuck in to now the days are colder!

Hi,
I'd like to join the thread too. I've been doing SW at home on my own and lost half a stone then I joined a group and I've lost another half stone.
I'm in a bit of a menu rut at the moment, since the weather's changed I don't want salads any more and all the lovely summer fruit is now out of season (and expensive!). I quite like vegetables soups and stews but I really want to make some pies....mmmm, pure comfort food.
I'm not used to all the different syn-free/low-syn dairy stuff though. When would you use quark/ff fromage frais/ff greek yoghurt? Are some better for cooking than others? I want to make mash and also have a creamy dairy sauce for fish pie or chicken pie. Oh, and chickeny pasta.
TIA!0 -

Hello Everyone
I joined slimming world in January and quickly realised that the meetings were not for me. Foolishly I gave up trying to eat healthily not long after stopping the meetings and as result although I have not gained weight over the last 9 months I am still two stone over weight.
Recently I have started to realize just how unfit and unhealthy I am and I want to make a big change in my life so I have decided to return to the slimming world plan, dust off the books and start again.
I am a bit nervous about it as I have such a sweet tooth but enough is enough and I need to do something. So I hope to join you all on your weight loss journey. Hopefully I will fully get my head round things this time

Yes of course;)

Thinking of comfort foods: if you make a basic cottage pie from extra lean mince, onions, gravy and mash that would be free although it has a small amount of superfree onion in it. You would have to syn the gravy. When you plate up your portion, to make it fit the EE plan you'd have to have two thirds of your plate covered in pie and the other third with SF veg like cabbage, cauliflower, carrots. personally I always play safe and go more like half and half.
There are other ways: you could make the pie using tinned tomatoes instead of gravy and it would be syn free. You could use quorn mince and then maybe your OH would eat it too. The veg with it has to be SF on Extra Easy (so peas and sweetcorn don't count). HTH.
:TCH27, delighted things are going well for you!
My EE plan for today:
B: small juice, HEB Puffed Wheat, HEA milk plus teas, grapes
L: vegetable brothsausage casserole with onions, mushrooms, carrots, cabbage butter beans and potatoes (should have leeks too but CBA to go and buy any).
Syns: juice0 -
CH27 - well done!!
I got 1/2lb off today - sigh! I should have had that bl00dy glass of wine after all on Sat night. Consultant thinks that as I have done a couple of green days and upped my fibre intake through the extra HEB, I haven't drunk enough (see, the wine would have helped with that!) and has recommended I have a pint of water with a slice of lemon in it before each meal to try to up my fluid intake.
So I'm sitting here with my pint of water while some soup is simmering for lunch. This is definitely a CBA day which in the past would send me ratching through the sweetie drawer but I'm gonna make some cheats rice pud to stave off the sugar cravings.Mortgage Aug 22 £280,000

I make cottage pie with a couple of oxos, a heaped tablespoon of marmite and some water to loosen it. Then serve with loads of veg. Mmmmm, might have to make that tonight.Mortgage Aug 22 £280,000
