Medmum, really sorry to hear this.

While I think your menu looks good, one thought struck me. We will all have a basic resting metabolic rate - the amount of calories we can have in a day without putting on weight. Whatever diet you do, that is a key number. For me, having had it measured medically, it's really low (1200 cals a day). So I HAVE to be really careful with calorie counting, and I really need to have exercise built in every day to give me enough calories to eat normally. It's tough but I've learnt to accept that's just the way I'm made - and it does work; I've now been at my goal weight for two years.

I know SW doesn't calorie count but the principles are the same - less fuel in than out = weight loss. You may just be an unlucky one like me who needs to get their heads round smaller portion sizes. Why not try a week eating the same food but having, say, a quarter less on your plate?

    Hope it picks up. xx

Sarah thanks for that and I'll definitely work that into the plan for next week. In fact now that I think about it, the only other time in my life that I successfully lost a lot of weight and kept it off was when I did Slimming Magazine's diet. We're talking about almost 30 years ago and I kept the weight off for several years, until I had kids, and that was a calorie-counted diet.

I completely believe in the basics of SW but if I try and work it with counting calories hopefully I can get it right.

Does anyone know of an online source for counting calories?

  • thankyou for your help ladies!!!:D:j:D:j

stef, the sides are: champ, skinny chips, house chips, thai cubes (havent a clue what they are), seasonal veg, garlic cubes, house salad, potato wedges or baby potatoes.

going on your suggestions, either fish (minus batter) and baby potatoes? or meatballs and spaghetti. due to lack of appetite ive hovered at 12st 12 (it was lower but not eating enough means its gone up a bit), so i dont really want to hit more if i can avoid it.

i didnt include the starters as although its a 2 course i dont really want one, plus i'd be eating the soup anyway as its the least syn-ly option (goats cheese and mayo, classic chicken caesar, cheesy garlic baguette or soup).. so its a no brainer for that one really
I'd rather try and fail, than not try and never know

loulou129, LJBNotts, treeny_bash (and everyone else I have lost track so sorry..mind=soggy sand.) - :jWelcome! :hello:

    MedMum
    - I couldn't see anything wrong with your food plan, just remember, a heaped spoon counts as a double measure - something I think I have fallen foul of. Sarah makes an important point, the more weigh we lose, the less energy our bodies have to burn to function. Hence the more you lose slower it drops off...unless you increase the activities/reduce the intake again.
Food Focus website is a handy tool for calorie counting, has a section to offset activity against it too.

Fluff, I'd avoid the meatballs. I'd vote for crispy shreded chilli chicken with chips/salad and seasoning or stripping the batter from the fish...not that I have ever managed to not eat at least half the batter when I do it.:rotfl:
kandfs mam/ Treeny-bash I too save my HE for later in the day, often for the evening snacks (cheese and crackers & grapes/apples the odd glass of wine to go with :D)
  • shellie lol hmmmm.....if i make the batter soggy ill not eat it. haaaaaaaaaate soggy food (i dont eat cereal because i have to shovel it if i want to eat it when its not soggy :rotfl:it was an interesting sight when i was younger)
I'd rather try and fail, than not try and never know

  • Hi all - I've just been converted to the idea of joining Slimming World by a work colleague and wondered if any of you were aware of any money saving offers for joining.

The main point that has put me off before is the expense of joining as I don't have much money and would like to save as much as possible on joining fees.

Any ideas would be appreciated, Thanks

Welcome Artchick. Every few weeks it seems various magazines are offering a free enrolement or discounts for online membership. You have just missed the latest offer that was available in Woman magazine. No doubt there will be a new promo in a few weeks to pull in the crowds that are looking to lose a little weight in the run up to the festivities.

    Hi All,

Just bobbing in to say hi, I'm still cooking up stuff for my freezer to start slimming world in the new year. I might start trying to get into the swing of it now as most of the food I have in is now slimming world friendly (I've eaten all the pastry type stuff!) even if I only stick to it 80%, its better than my current diet of crisps and chocolate (not quite that bad dont worry!). As its healthy eating, its safe to follow extra easy when pregnant, I'll have 2 HEBs and 2HEAs as recommended. I probably won't weigh myself as I'm not trying to lose weight at the moment, just trying not to put any more on (or limit the damage at least). I feel like I'm just being greedy at the moment because I can be :o

Anyway, just wondering...is the Total 0% yoghurt fat free greek thing free on Slimming World? I've googled around and it suggests it is, but speaking to my Mum she thinks it isn't. Anyone know the answer? I love the stuff with a spoonful of syrup to sweeten it up!

Ammonite, yes Total 0% is free just remember to syn whatever syrup you use to sweeten it. I usually use 1tsp of honey at 1 syn per spoon.
