Watched part of a 'One Born Every Minute' programme about obese mums tonight. Their weight was causing them massive health problems. I found it scary that they were putting their (and babies) lives at risk. Certainly food for thought about weight/health issues generally.

Hindsight speaking here - with my 1st I was overweight, with my second I was seriously obese. - The second pregancy was awful, no energy, no willpower - hugely struggled with just moving about the house. At the time I didn't see how my weight was dragging me down, how the drain on my body was affecting everything. Of course - when your "there" you don't believe any of it. Hindsight is good like that. Anyone that is pregnant I always say "go with the flow" anyone hoping to get pregnant I now wholeheartedly recomend losing weight/eating healthy thoroughout.

i have started my food blog here if anyone is interested and wants to follow it. I feel it will be a good opportunity to be 110% honest and hopefully once and for all I will turn the corner and shift the weight!

Hope everyone is well and have a fab day all!
:T Great way to keep on track - a blog helped me out of my postnatal depression... which was further fueled by weight issues and the comfort eating circle we all find ourselves in at times. Nice to know we can inspire each other like this.
  • Hi all,

My husband and I went to our local group last night after building up the courage for a few weeks! So day 1 for us both, although i bought the mag last week and have cooked a few meals out of it already. Just wanted to say hi really, and no doubt i will be asking lots of questions but you all seem very friendly.

:wave:welcome. I can see what you mean about the meat but, for example, on your menu for today the only meat you've had is the chopped ham. I'm not an expert on Green but you could have 100g of ham as a HEB and still have your milk, cereal and another HEA if you wanted. As your BF is a veggie, I'd have thoought he was keen to have the extra HEXs on Green. Good Luck, whatever you decide.:)

Hi maman, thanks for the welcome. BF is doing all green days but he didn't have both his hexs yesterday. He met a friend for a drink and went slightly over on his syns so hopefully that will compensate. I guess I could have done a green day yesterday and counted the ham as a hex too, but I'll see how it goes. If I do end up having a meat free day I'm sure I'll be glad of the extra ryvita at the end of the night.

Yesterday went quite well, bf turned his nose up at lunch ("it was ok, but I don't want it again") but I made us a lentil curry for tea that he declared better than takeaway, high praise indeed. I struggled a bit in the morning with just having fruit between breakfast and lunch so today I've got 3 ryvita thins to snack on (2 syns each) and hopefully that will help. What does everyone here do for breakfast? It seems such a waste to use the hexs up before the day really starts, but I've always eaten a big breakfast and just fruit wouldn't cut it.

    LJBNotts - welcome. x
Treeny-bash - for breakfast I usually have mullerlight and fruit, and if I'm particularly hungry a couple of boiled eggs. I like to save my HEx for later in the day too. Can I just say that I love your name, my niece is called Catriona but when she was born she was a wee dot of a thing so I called her Teenie (and when she was older Teenie-bash) and it's stuck - she even goes by Teenie at school.

Nothing planned this weekend so a dry weekend in front of me - really hoping for 2.5lb off this week to drop me down into the next stone and give me my 4st award. Fingers crossed. x

Good morning to all the new ladies popping in.

I havent sorted out todays meals plan for myself yet as not long got up due to having a week of awful nights sleep, even now i dont think i have had more than 30 mins
Anyway, while i were in Asda last night i saw the Batchelors pasta and sauce wholegrain variety reduced to a meer 25p!!!! Are these still free on the plan? They are not the new and improved ones as i scoured the packets before gingerly picking them up and popping them in the trolley.

Going to drown my sorrows in decaf coffee, wake up a little and start thinking of what to eat, catcha all laters.

  • I'm gutted this morning. I've put on almost 2lb this week and really don't know how. It's been a holiday week (a bit like Christmas) but I've been so careful and really planned the meals down to the last bite. There was only one day when I had more than I should but basically I've been on plan.

I need you please to look at my plan for yesterday and today and tell me if you can see if I'm going wrong anywhere. I've been drinking 2 litres of water religiously every day. I didn't do much exercise this week but did a 40 min power walk last night.

    Thursday

b-2 slices WM bread (B), baked beans, 2 fried eggs
    s-banana
l-risotto with braised cabbage and spring onions, 1 tblspn honey
s-energy bar (95cals), smoked salmon salad (tomato, cucumber, sweet corn, smoked salmon), dressing (1/2tsp light mayo)
d-carrot & pumpkin soup, cauliflower and cheese (A)

    Friday

    s-banana
b-2 slices wm toast (B), baked beans, 2 fried eggs, 45g mozzarella (A)
    s-peach
l-salmon salad, dressing with 1tblspn mayo
s-cup of carrot & pumpkin soup
d-cauliflower & lentil soup, roast chicken, Israeli salad (1tblspn techina)

    Saturday

b-Israeli salad, hard boiled egg, 1 tblspn light mayo
    s-banana
l-Israeli salad, 1 tblspn techina; chicken thigh in tomato ragu, salad (leaves, peach, red onion, dressing)
d-4 ryvitas (B), 2 tblspns humous, Israeli salad
    s-cauliflower & lentil soup
    Mediterranean Mum

hoping to lose 50lb by February 2013! 2st lost so far :j

Medmum, really sorry to hear this.

While I think your menu looks good, one thought struck me. We will all have a basic resting metabolic rate - the amount of calories we can have in a day without putting on weight. Whatever diet you do, that is a key number. For me, having had it measured medically, it's really low (1200 cals a day). So I HAVE to be really careful with calorie counting, and I really need to have exercise built in every day to give me enough calories to eat normally. It's tough but I've learnt to accept that's just the way I'm made - and it does work; I've now been at my goal weight for two years.

I know SW doesn't calorie count but the principles are the same - less fuel in than out = weight loss. You may just be an unlucky one like me who needs to get their heads round smaller portion sizes. Why not try a week eating the same food but having, say, a quarter less on your plate?

    Hope it picks up. xx

medmum, im no expert but i cant see anything wrong with that?

stef: if there isnt a new and improved on it then i would say theyre probably fine, just ruddy good value!

yesterday i had two large plums, veggie broth for lunch, veggie broth for tea, though i couldnt really taste it so i ended up having a ham and low low cheese sarnie aswell(HEA & HEB)

ahh today we have a work lunch to go to in a cafe in bangor and i dont know what to have!

    homemade meatballs/spaghetti/tomato sauce
crispy shreded chilli chicken with chips/salad and seasoning
    Fish pie/glazed cheese mash
Steak and onion pie/puff pastry top/choice of side order
    Traditional Fish and chips
    Southern Fried goujons/chilli jam/skinny chips

since I dont know the fat content of the meat i dont know what to have. any suggestions ladies?
I'd rather try and fail, than not try and never know

On the wagon again I go.... royally fell off.... 4.5st (63lb) by June 2016.... LET'S DO THIS!!!!!!!:grin::grin::grin::grin::grin::grin::grin:
  • Hi Fluff, from that list I would def go for the meatballs & tomato sauce with spaghetti. At worst they could be using non-lean mince and a splash of oil in the spaghetti.

Is there an option to swap the chips for a jacket potato? If there was i think from the list you have given i would go for the fish, remove the batter and then it would come in as sin free.

Hoping those pasta and sauces are free they will be ideal for popping in the slimmer of the week basket.
