psychopathbabble wrote: »Hi guys,
just a quick one! does anyone know of any low-syn ready meals? I have a long day at work today (12 til 12) and nothing in the flat to cook up to be able to take and reheat for my dinner.
Thanks
Ah, I see you're already sorted but for future reference the WW frozen meals aren't too bad in an emergency, most are 4-6 syns each. Not massively filling but can be bulked out a bit.Hi all. Sorry if I'm being dim, but isn't it a third superfree on all the plans, so wouldn't amount of veg be the same? I'm just trying out green days as a change cos I seem to have got stuck on EE. Any hints would be appreciated.:)
Even though it's good practice to have 1/3 superfree on all plans it isn't strictly necessary on red or green. I tend to have green if I fancy a day off from a lot of veg, as can just have a quick, easy meal like pasta & sauce for lunch and have egg, chips and beans for tea without thinking where I'd fit the SF in. The extra HEs are a nice change too2011: [STRIKE]Houses[/STRIKE], [STRIKE]weddings[/STRIKE], [STRIKE]cats[/STRIKE]

WI for me this morning and I've got back into target range.:)
I've done my meal plan for the week. I'm going to a wedding at the weekend and staying over so the rest of the week looks positively saintly!:D
Agree that one third SF isn't essential on Green. What it does allow is falling back on storecupboard things like peas, sweetcorn and baked beans which is in the healthy 5 a day but not SF. It's good towards the end of the week when fresh stuff mostly eaten up.0 -
I am glad to see that the costing of dieting had been brought up on here as it seems to be a bone of contention for many right now and a reason for packing in.
The lady i have been talking to through FB has said this week it is far too expensive to follow SW so asked her why she thought so. IMO it comes down to people having to shift from ready made sauces or packet mixes for making everyday foods to starting from scratch meaning stocking up on herbs and spices and other things that you wouldnt need if doing it the 'cheats' way. She commented how her shopping had been £110 last friday and she was in doing a top up shop tuesday for more f/v which cost a further £32. It is also a combination of people having to cook multiple meals for families that wont get on board.
For me personally a weeks food shopping for 3 adults is around the £50 mark, this includes all fresh meat, fresh F/V and then replacements of herbs and spices etc. I would have said it was for 4 adults however my daughter is now getting to a stage where she wont eat anything she knows has come from a SW recipe. Her taste buds are still obsessed with fast foods, not necessarily ready meals but working in mcdonalds she has a meal paid for her each day so once she is spoilt. With this i believe anything that doesnt contain fat, grease or additives tastes alien to her and therefore wrong. I have given up the battle now so she has the choice to see whats on my meal plans and either eat with us or buy her own alternatives.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

I thought I would let you all know that my decision following my earlier post on Tuesday was that I would re-join class.
Thank you everyone for all your posts and comments. It was interesting to see what you all had to say and very helpful to get different viewpoints. Certainly it was interesting that some of you picked up on certain things that I hadn't mentioned. For example, simply paying to rejoin isn't going to magically make me stick to plan from now on and forevermore. More on that later!
So it was a busy day yesterday and I didn't get chance to share my menu.
It went something like this.
Breakfast:
Nothing! not ideal and not the plan - did take chocolate weetabix with me to the office (HEB + 2 syns) but got caught up with work so didn't eat then scoffed an orange club about 10am with my 3rd cup of tea. (I need to check the syns).
Lunch was 2 slices of HEB friendly bread with Curry beans (1/2 syn last time I checked) plus my 30g cheedar (HEA).
Tea was SW chips, roasted pepper and 2 fried eggs (cooked with frylight). Some sweet chilli sauce (1 tablespoon) 1.5 syns.
Then an unplanned visit to the pub where I had 175ml red wine (more syns)
I also scoffed 3 Toffifee sweets (I don't know how many syns these are)
TODAY's menu looks like this
Breakfast:
Kellogg's (I think) Biscuit Moments Blueberry bar
HEB friendly toast and marmite
Orange club
Lunch was a Batchelors Pot Shot Mild Curry Noodles (free)
Dinner is undecided but I think will be SW chips again at I fancy something comforting.
I should also say that I have finished the box of Toffifee. I now realise that buying xmas chocolate in October is not sensible and I can't be trusted to eat one chocolate a day (there were 15 pieces in the box with 1 given away) so 11 pieces scoffed today which amounts to far too many syns.
This is disapointing but I am not worrying about it. Someone on here gave some very good advice and that was when you have something you shouldn't, don't give up, simply start afresh from the next meal. It would have been so easy today to think "sod it" and get something naughty for lunch/something naughty for tea. Instead I have reined it back in and hope the scales will reward me next week.
I have also decided that I won't be weighing in between class anymore and I have told my friend that if we go to the pub, I'm not allowed chips!0 -
So I can't seem to alter my post above without the computer throwing a wobbley! so where I say I have rejoined - I want to add that I have rejoined rather than continue my existing membership at starting weight plus several pounds.
Also the biscuit moments blueberry bar is 5 syns.
I am doing a mental tally of my syns but will try to keep proper track/count in future posts.0 -

I have a friend whose cupboards are chocker with various jars of sauces - to cook sausages, to make curries, to add to chicken etc and they are SO expensive in comparison to doing it yourself.
I was grocery shopping today and bought a cauli for 69p and a good sized head of broccoli for 50p. I glanced up and they had bags of ready to cook broccoli and cauli (just over 600g and mine weighed much more than that) for £2 something - I couldn't believe it!! I mean how long does it take to wash and trim a bit of veg?
If our last taster evening was anything to go by there are a lot of people out there who just do not avail themselves of all the wonderful SW recipes and economical, healthy foods which are available. I think this is one of the reasons why some people don't really get into healthy eating - because they can't be bothered. I will probably not be very popular for saying that though! There were only 3 people in our group (incl me) who "made" something for everyone to try. The rest brought low fat crisps, low cal snacks, diet coke, ryvita and someone brought chocolate snowballs!
Personally I don't see any sense in paying to go to class, giving up time and money for petrol and then living on crisps and snacks and still feeling hungry! I just don't get it. I can honestly say that DH and I have never felt deprived in any way since starting SW in May - OK weight loss hasn't been rapid but we both feel well and are never hungry.
You spend quite a bit less than we do on your food bill - well done!:)0 -
Good to hear you sounding positive FE, I've been worrying all week that I'd spoken out of turn.:o You are so right to just start afresh when you have extra syns. I too made the mistake of buying Christmas goodies (Lidl's stollen:drool:) too early and that's long been eaten.
I agree Steph that I don't find SW expensive either. I've been to Aldi today and carrots, cabbage, parsnips, new potatoes and cucumber are all 39p. I'd recommend Aldi to anyone needing to tighten purse strings (or like me that hates being ripped off). My DH is a star and he'll eat almost anything put in front of him so I don't need to bother making separate meals, although we often have different lunches.
My EE day today:
B: scrambled egg, bacon, HEB toast, HEA milk for teas, banana
L: LO mash, tomatoes and mushroomsfaggots, peas, carrots, onion, new potatoes
Syns: small juice, squirt of sauce, faggots:eek: I know these must be hugely synful but I haven't eaten any for 2 years and I fancied some. If I'd still been getting to target I'd have substituted half syn sausages or some lean meat instead.0
