Im trying to get the ICS link that Sillygoose posted but its saying not found when I click on it? Is it no longer working or just me?
Im using chrome.
The link does not work for me either.
I recommend the Stock + rom produced by Cyda.
http://www.modaco.com/topic/358371-romics-stock-rom-b952-r1-updated-2911/
You will need to instal CWM but all the info is on modaco (worth registering)Installation
Copy the zip file to your sdcard and then boot in to ClockWorkMod.
CWM > Wipe data/factory reset
CWM > advanced > reboot recovery
CWM > install zip from SD > Choose zip from sdcard > select StockPlus-B952-R1-291112.zip
Wait for installation to finish and reboot
Recommended on first boot
Once the ROM has booted for the first time I would recommend leaving it for a few minutes while it finishes it's initial setup. After this I'd recommend doing the following to improve the overall usage of the ROM:
App drawer > Security > Superuser permissions > set to ON – this enables root access request notifications.
App drawer > No-Frills CPU > Set Governor to SmartassV2, set I/O scheduler to sio and for nice performance boost set the Max clock frequency to 1.152Ghz.
NB: I have found G300's to be pretty damn stable between 1Ghz and 1.22Ghz so you can comfortably use 1.22Ghz if you wish but if you want keep things conservative and still have a little performance improvement then setting the max frequency to 1.152ghz is a great compromise.0 -

Are you after the V940 ICS update? originally on the Modoco thread it was uploaded on someones server but they took it down, probably as too many people were using it!
Anyway, I saved it on a download site just in case.. THIS IS IT..
Now I am not going put down any other versions of software, I can't without trying them and I have used 'Modoco Specials' on other phones with good results. But I would add that V940 is an 'official' clean version from a phone operator and is simple to install, stable and with few vices. Its a good route for newbies wanting to upgrade, debrand and just use the phone. Rooting is useful as the next step as it lets you fix all known small issues.
Other ROM's from places like Modoco can take more advantage of the phones abilities (such as overclocking) but require more work, have more risk as they are only produced by enthusiastic amateurs (although many are very, very clever cookies indeed!!!)
Its up to you, as a techie I would love to be able to play more with the phone but I depend on it for my work so I opted for simplest version. By all means try special ROMS but my advice would be to pick one and wait see how other people get on with it for a few weeks before installing, let others find any bugs!0 -
Nice one sillygoose. Mighty good of you to upload the rom.0

Cheers, had a look at the Cyda ROM looks OK! as plenty of people have tried it now, bit curious about how he got the overclocking kernel as won't be 'official' of any sort and what on earth is the 'Sony Bravia Engine' in there? Other stuff looks OK, use the no-frill cpu control on other phones and its solid.0 -

Hi my trusty desire is on it's last legs (battery connection very loose and hardly charges) and my contract up next month so considering taking the plunge and getting the G300, am a fairly light user so considering being really moneysaving and going for an Ovivo sim as Ovivo runs off vodofone does that mean i wouldn't need to get G300 unlocked?0

Correct. Ovivo piggy back on to Vodafone so no unlocking required. Another fiver saved. To eke out the Ovivo allowance look at apps like Vibor and WhatsApp.0

Current deals...
Cheapest - Very.co.uk £99 minus - for opening new credit account there are currently codes (33XKJ) for £25 off first order over £50, go via topcashback for 7% off. Takes a while (3-4 months) but it just paid out for me OK. A small delivery charge may have to be paid though.
(maybe better codes around check code sites to ensure they are working before ordering)
Sainsburys online £99.99 no top up, free delivery. You can put Nectar points towards it if you redeem them into Sainsburys evoucher codes first via Nectar site.
Argos - avail in quite a few stores, £99.99+£10 top up required so £109.99 plus you could spend any Nectar points towards it.
If you have credit on your Amazon account then they have it at £100 free delivery.
Vodaphone shops £120! - no thanks.
You might even get lucky and find a cheap one languishing forgotten in the back of the display case in Tesco, Outer Hebrides branch!0 -

I go the G300e for my wife at Christmas after seeing this thread and am quite impressed with it, and am slightly considering changing my Desire which has been great for 2 and a half years now.
Would you say that this is a better phone than the Desire ( id so why) - I would stick with T Mobile as the deal i got way back was the 3GB data and as many mins and texts as i need for £15/month which i still think is pretty competitive0
