Spill the beans... on how to minimise loo paper use

Here you are referring not to the defecator but to the object that is being poo-ed on.
You would not use paper to clean the toilet itself, but it is usually fine for wiping yourself clean after going to the loo. But I do agree that there are some times, when an extra clean-up with water or soapy water is needed (or wipes if you're out and about and don't have access to a bidet or bath).
Wait a second..you don't start wiping the toilet after you've crapped on it, do you? The toilet itself gets cleaned by water when you flush it! So, if the toilet needs cleaned with water, so does your backside! From a hygienic point of view, it does not make sense to use toilet paper for cleaning faeces.
Agree re wipes in the case of an emergency; a water bottle is also good.0 -
Reminds me of the lyrics to the Star Trek song-
"There's Klingons on the starboard bow"!!!!0 -
if people only use 3 sheets maybe they do need water, for those who wipe till clean it's not needed. To reduce time needed for that, and paper usage, buy large tub of acqueus cream from pharmacy. You'll have a nice clean bottom withut water. Can also buy small, more expensive, tubes for use when travelling.
Strange how the countries that use water are often ones where the incidence of food poisoning tends to be very high. Wish they'd put some of the water on their hands.0 -
I would use old newspaper and for the women stamp your feet instead of wiping after a number 1.0

How often do you shower? Being 100% clean 24/7 sounds like a lofty aspiration...0 -

Maybe not quite on topic, but I've always wondered:-
If using toilet paper to wipe your nose, (instead of tissues which can be expensive), is it better for the environment to place it in the bin - effect on landfill and biodegradation - or flush it down the loo?0 -

Don't know, but I remember when people used to use hankies. You don't see many people using cotton handkerchiefs now, I suppose it's a bit too 'granny' :rotfl:0 -
Those people saying you need to use water to be clean, please can you explain how this works in practice if you don't have a bidet and/or you are not at home? I agree water is better, but I don't have time to pop home and shower after every poo!0

I wonder why a lot of houses had bidets in the 1970s but very few do now. Was it just a 70s fashion? It might be more environment-friendly to use water than reams of toilet paper, but I can honestly say I have never used a bidet and wouldn't know how to work one :rotfl:This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
