No, it's even weirder than that!

No less than 4 people have decided to join this forum just to express their opinion on toilet paper, not to mention the several others who have been members for quite some time but have only posted on a couple of occasions before they felt compelled to add their voices too.

I had no idea that toilet paper was such an enthralling topic :rotfl:
  • I decided recently (remembering this topic) to write on the edge of the cardboard inner of each new loo-roll the date when first deployed.

I live alone and have two loos. Upstairs is for minor jobs only, as I have a four-pint milk carton filled with water in the cistern to save water. Downstairs is a magnificent Victorian construction that will handle all bodily emanations. I usually use one sheet upstairs and two (depending upon circumstances) downstairs, and also wash my bum and anoint it with Epaderm aka Hydramol after a downstairs visit.

The upstairs loo roll has lasted two months to the day so far and still has a few days' supply left. The downstairs one has lasted seven weeks and still has about a third of a roll remaining.

As per Andrea's post the thread is linked in this weeks money-saving email from Martin, which would explain it being dug up after all this time, and there being a few new members.....

It still isn't a topic which would cause me to join a forum.

Perhaps that makes me weird! :D

In our house we found that after doing a family survey everyone only used the centre of the toilet paper so we started cutting the rolls in half .

    Saved a fortune.

We are now considering cutting the halfs in half because we still only use the centre of the paper.

Let you know how much we save soon.

and a lot cheaper than the fancy Jap imports with heaters and adjustable jets........

Panasonic make them on the same line as the bread makers :rotfl:
  • I think a factor in how many sheets you use is the consistency of your faeces and that is something you can to some extent regulate by your diet, but some of it you can't.

I'm always embarrassed when away from home by the amount of loopaper I use, because I'm on medication which produces gooey faeces the consistency of cake mix, which make an awful lot of mess around my back passage. The only thing I've found that helps is apricots, which seem to bind things together a bit.

I don't know whether others have a sticky faeces problem - it's not something that usually comes up in conversation.

What I can categorically say is that it takes me a lot of wiping until I'm clean. The first few sheets are just coated in a layer of the goo. I generally use several pads of three or four Andrex shea followed by three wet toilet wipes, followed by another couple of pieces of Andrex.

I also have a chronic crack between my bum cheeks, so I use an antiseptic wipe from up high down to my anus. In the ideal world, cleaning myself well round the back passage would be good enough, but it's very easy for a little bit of faecal matter to find its way higher up when wiping front to back.

Am I the only one here that doesn't have nicely-formed stools? There doesn't appear to be anything like mine on the Bristol Stool Chart that medics use.

I sympathize. I use Shea as I often have to wipe so much it can be painful. Sometimes I'm fine, other times not. I'm positive that something like the hydrocleanse is the best solution.

Plenty of oats (try porridge for breakfast) will help get firmer stools. Whatever you do avoid beetroot which is the best laxative since Ex Lax chocolate! I think this is one of those unmentionable problems which happens to a lot of people on a high fruit and vegetable diet , which is perhaps why some people don't strive too hard to achieve their Five a Day.
