Plenty of oats (try porridge for breakfast) will help get firmer stools. Whatever you do avoid beetroot which is the best laxative since Ex Lax chocolate! I think this is one of those unmentionable problems which happens to a lot of people on a high fruit and vegetable diet , which is perhaps why some people don't strive too hard to achieve their Five a Day.

I take Fybogel twice a day.
  • Three sheets or five/six depending on need!
Bidets are the best answer - sad that we don't go in for them in the UK
An old boss of mine used to to take boys on Duke of Edinburgh camps and he always issued 3 sheets
"one up ................one down...............and one polish off!)
I generally buy Asda's plain and always WHITE paper - you shouldn't buy coloured as the dye is really bad for the sewage system and the environment.
    Good luck with your savings

    1. Use the very cheapest toilet paper

    2. Carefully make a pad of three separate sheets

    3. Wipe the anus with the pad

    4. Discard any soiled sheets usually only the top sheet

    5. Add another single sheet under the remaining two sheets

    6. Repeat process until anus is clean

    7. By this method paper lasts three times as long as normal
  • In Thailand they have a bowl of water which they use to clean themselves. Many think that using paper is filthy becasue it smears the mess rather then washes it clean.

Water cheaper, cleaner and does not run out when you need it most.

Farmfoods Nicky toilet rolls are superb. 18 rolls for less than £4 and they are thick and scented. You only need two or three sheets, four at the most!

As a retired paper maker that used to make toilet tissue, I can tell you that the quantity of dye used will have little environmental impact. In addition to this, how do you think they get the paper white? By bleaching it. The good news is that they stopped using chlorine bleach in the 1980s. However, paper that is recycled to make toilet paper may contain traces of chlorine. We are talking about parts per trillion rather than parts per million.
  • Invest in a bidet, it will probably pay for itself in a year.
Apart from when I'm away on holiday I haven't used paper for thirty years!! You'll save money and feel so fresh & clean
  • Hi All

All interesting suggestions, but not one of you has thought of washing with soap and water by fitting an aptly named "SHATTAF" (a shower head with trigger)(search EBAY (there are other online auction sites available ;-) for aptly named SHATTAF,)) then dry/wipe with paper. and it's sooooo much better for the emeroids, (scuse the spelling), almost makes a toilet visit enjoyable!:rotfl:
  • I've scrolled passed this thread many times but have never ventured in before. It's been very enlightening!
  • Make whoever blocks the toilet unblock it.

My father made me do it and I've been frugal with the bog roll ever since.
