  • I have always used triple velvet. One week i was a little bit short of cash and got some cheaper paper popped it on the loo roll holder and said no more

Other half went to the loo and came downstairs and said "there is something wrong with the toilet paper" I said "Oh whats wrong with it" his reply which made me spit my drink out all over the carpet was "they seem to have forgotten to put any ply in it":rotfl:

So Triple velvet it is all the time.

This particular 'tips on saving money' thread is by far the most ridiculous one ever posted on MSE - and that's a crowded field. But if MSE chooses to turn itself into a laughing stock ..................

Time to chill Errata - where's your spirit of adventure? It's time to "boldly go where no man has gone before"!!! Beam me up Scottie! :D

"He would only ever use three sheets of toilet paper. One up, one down and one to polish."
  • I remember using newspaper cut into sqares when I was a child, then we had navy knickers so it didn't show the ink on our btm's.
At least the newspaper today is better quality and the ink does not come off.:rotfl:
  • I can not believe how tight some people are !! If you must save , next time you go to the supermarket go to the loo and nick a roll . Go just before you have a shower and use your hand or dont eat, just have liquids. Personally I lead a normal life and save on other things.

i remember that too. On a piece of string!. It wasnt that long ago either, i think it was a case of not having any money to afford toilet roll.

I guess if you work, use the works toilets, if you go out to a shop or supermarket, use there toilets too. Use neighbours toilets :p anyone's toilet apart from your own. I do think toilet roll can be bought cheap. we buy ours from B&m 9 rolls for £2.99 :) or is it £1.99

The proper use of toilet paper is an important part of health and hygiene. People should, indeed must, use what's right for them. Using less than they need in order to save money is stupid, as is any attempt to encourage them to use less.

I used to use many feet of toilet paper, just mindlessley taking loads when I didn't need it.
I have saved money since I got into the habit of using enough but not too much a couple of years ago.
I think this thread is cool. It's good that it's in this forum.
I don't think its saying to scrimp on bog roll, but to use enough and not too much, and I think that there are probably loads of us who grab handfuls of loo roll just for a wee or a runny nose.

It's hard to believe people are happy to have a bin containing adult human faeces hanging around in a bathroom for hours.

That's why I use cloths which you can rinse before putting in their lidded bin.

Well, that and I hate the idea of having to throw away wipes. I don't get the idea of disposable wipes any more than the idea of disposable nappies. Why throw things away and contribute to landfill when you can easily reuse them (cloth ones, obviously, not paper)?

Saving is not the same as stealing. it cannot be equated morally.

And just passing liquids? Um...well....that doesn't help most women tbh! Also, fwiw, food waste is not the sole componant of faeces, so even if you did follow this bizarre suggestion, it would not entirely eliminate (:rotfl:) the issue (:rotfl::rotfl:).

I don't think my life is that normal, but its not deprived, and i don't like wasting money. If it were a matter of deprivation then loo paper is fairly low on my list of priorities.
