There is usually a debate raging on confetti.co.uk forum most weeks about whether or not you should give favours and how much you should spend! It's a completely personal choice... We don't want the 'traditional' sugared almond favours at our wedding (as we don't like them!) and there are a lot of other 'traditional' things we don't want either... We are just taking the aspects of the wedding day we like the sound of and discarding the rest and we're not really bothered what people might say! So, we won't be having favours as our budget won't stretch to it and we just don't want them!

If I was a guest I wouldn't expect a favour, but if offered I think the nicest ideas are the charity pins or the chocolates. I definitely wouldn't want a trinket box or glass with someone else's name on it, I've got enough clutter already! :D

I never had favours at my own wedding. I just couldn't afford them. But I have been to a few wedding that do. Not everyone does that custom here so it's good that it's not really expected.

The ones that have had them, had the almonds or chocolates. They were only given to the females. You may like that idea. Forget the fella's. :D Another thing done now as a lot of couples live together first so have most *gifts*. The guests are asked to pay for their meal instead of a gift. I think that's a fab idea as it's the catering that cost's heaps.
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

Don't know if this has already been posted, but I'm too lazy to trawl through to see if this is a duplicate post.

Getting married this year and we're saving up for my wedding ring with clubcard points. You can convert them to deals and the points are worth 4x as much.

I currently have 3000 points saved, that's £120 in deals. My rings costs £350 so we'll have to pay £220 or less if we can save more!

Dead chuffed with myself. :) Got bloke to save points onto my account too and my brother is also helping out cos I gave him one of our key fob cards, so he can collect points for me too. :j

We've ordered our own wine for the very budget reception. I've bought it off Tesco's grocery website, together with chocolates as thankyou pressies for various people, and used a code that got me 1000 points for spending over £75 which has bumped up my points balance a bit.
Pay off CC debt by Xmas 2017 #095 £0 of £11,416

My parents are paying (luckily) for the whole thing. OH's parents offered to pay for the flowers and my parents turned them down - graciously, obviously! The very thought of them asking people to donate money.................. shudder. But that's them!

I've been to 3 weddings in the past couple of years and they only had favours at one of them.
At the 2 weddings that didn't have them I didn't even notice their absence - only thought of it now with this thread.

I remember years ago hearing somebody talking about favours for their wedding and I had to ask what they were.

So I would say no, not everyone expects them, and if money is tight, do without -weddings are expensive enough!

Well that's good. My mum paid for my reception too. We had a small wedding of 60 guests. But the meal - present is a good idea for those on their second etc wedding or for those who haven't got parents who can afford the expense. It's not like asking people to donate money. It's worded (very nicely) in the invitation and with your acceptance you send the money. I've been to 3 weddings like this and they were great. One wedding had 300 guests.

    Crikey

I thought that it was bad enough that my dad had bumped the numbers up from 100 to 120! It's just lucky that OH has no extended family other than his 2 sisters, mum and dad and they just want to invite 2 friends.................

When did you get married? Are you getting married this year?

How much did you spend? What is your budget?

I am single, never been engaged, but I do know that I dont want to go into my married life in debt. I suppose because I have been in debt already I am a bit more financially savvy - and now I would rather save up for something than buy now pay later!!

Do you expect your parents to pay for a % of the wedding? My parents wouldnt be able to afford to give anything, neither could they afford to send me to Uni (I didnt go in the end, but this was out of choice, not because they wouldnt pay for it!). This doesnt make my parents bad people, infact, its not something I think of until I hear about other people saying that "my parents gave X,Y,Z"..

Just curious to hear what people think.

    xx
