LOL... Perhaps I'll dust around it this weekend... it may fall off the shelf.. it may not. Who am I to predict the future?!
I love the idea of the big bowl of sweets. Some really cool "retro" sweets would make for a fab table decoration. You could even team it in with a colour scheme.
Actually, saying that, a friend of mine had "the big purple one" from quality street as her favours as it matched her colour scheme perfectly! :TMost things in life are beyond our control, for everything else there is a spreadsheetson#1 born 04/01/09

What would you think if you turned up to a wedding and there weren't any favours?
Errr, what are favours at a wedding? I can't say I've ever heard of them.

My sort of guest! They're little gifts given to every guest - normally put in their place for the meal.

We've got minitures for everyone, but it's only a small wedding so it didn't cost much.
As it's Easter, I've bought Lindt bunnies for the children and I've also got tiny coloured foil covered Easter Eggs to scatter in the middle of the tables too for people to help themselves too.
I know not everyone is getting married at Easter, but you if you are getting married at a particular chocolate season, you might be able to incorporate that in to your wedding plans.
You could get a bulk pack of Love Hearts sweets from somewhere like Makro. That would be a cheap way of doing it with a love theme. Here I go again on my own....0 -

Ah OK, thanks for clarifying that - learn something every day! Must admit I've never seen (or even heard of) that idea.

My mum thinks that favours are unnecessary and are just a modern invention (ie she didn't have them at her wedding back in '73!).Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0

IMO if you cant afford it then favours wont be missed
agree that a bowl of sweets / plate of chocs for the whole table is a better / cheaper option of you feel you have to have something
love hearts are popular if you wanted something cute / kitsch0 -
Why do weddings have to be so traditional? Do what you want to do, give what you want to give, it's YOUR day enjoy it and sod what other people think.
Use the money more sensibly, it so annoys me when people think they should get this and that and what really bugs me is when kids ask for their party bags - AAARRRRRGGGGHHHHHHI haven't got one!0 -

To be honest, this is what I've thought. It just seems that "everyone" else has had favours that I had never seen it NOT done. We're spending so much more than I had originally intended that this seemed to be yet another expense.
A friend's point of view was that she was going to get free food and drink, so why did she need a favour too.Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -

Traditionally they are 5 sugared almonds in a net lol http://www.ukweddingfavours.com/sugared-almonds.htm
they symbolise : health / wealth / happiness / fertility / longlife
but these days most couples have more moders things like lil boxes with chocs / sweets in or even lottery tickets for each guest and they read out the numbers during the evening (if its a sat wedding) to see if anyone has won anything0
