The one thing that we ARE saving on is the car! I'm walking to and from the church. My dad asked me the other day whether I wanted to hire one, but then I pointed out that if it's raining then I'll hop into the back of the car and he can drive me. In addition, he didn't realise that cars cost - or the cars that I've seen - £300 to £600  The church is a 2 min walk........................Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0

His main concern is that Sunderland are on Sky Sports on the Friday night, so we need to find a pub up there showing the game - men, eh?
No doubt, if he's anything like my OH, that'll be a "priority".
The night before our wedding, OH is staying at the local pub (which does b&b rooms) with his ushers and best man. This seems to be the "ideal" venue for him to drink away his last few hours of "freedom". What he doesn't realise is that his last few hours of freedom were 3 years ago - before he started going out with me! :rotfl: :rotfl:
More importantly
Best of luck Becles  :beer:Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
My favours are doubling up as balloon weights, i'm using coloured glass pebbles in them, was going to use sugard almonds but they weren't heavy enough and it wouldv'e cost us £1.50 for each weight, bit much when there will be about 24 balloons.Pole Dancer In Training :rotfl:

ooooh, congratulations becles!!
i had a fab wedding, can't remember the exact budget but it was in the hundreds, less than a thousand. a goth shop made my medieval velvet wedding dress for £75. the catering was over £300 but it was yummy. we hired the upstairs of a lovely yellow stone pub, hundreds of years old with gorgeous windows, and a history of poisonings :rotfl: the honeymoon was an extra 500 or so, a coach trip to disneyland paris. i don't think it really matters what you spend or what you do for your wedding, i loved the whole thing and don't regret not spending more money.
but as for parents, no they didn't pay for it. i was 29 and had moved out years ago. they didn't help me through uni either, i got a job and paid my own way, taking the loans out etc. it never occurred to me to ask my parents for money - i haven't done since i got my first job. i know that my husband had food parcels from his parents when he was at uni and they bought his computer, but he didn't ask them to, they insisted.52% tight0 -
I know some of you already know this but we got married on holiday in New Orleans in 1998, no guests just us and my 2 children. We went to sort it all out in shorts because it was hot and when we had all the paperwork it was the time we had been given so we got married in our shorts and t shirts, went to McDonalds for a milkshake and then in the evening we had a meal on a Missippippi Paddle Steamer.
We didn't tell anyone we were getting married, the holiday was a prize I won at work so I think we spent $25 on the licence and we would have been eating out anyway.
Good luck for a happy marriage to Becles and Vicky A I can recomend doing a flit to the states for a wedding .0 -
The favours that i am having for the ladies are quite difficult to describe. My cousin is making them for me. They look like roses, she has taken a balloon stick and place a scented votive candle on top. Then using the same colour she is putting voile over the top and wrapping florist tape down the balloon stick (this keeps the voile in place) and then wraps it round up the way and puts 2 little artificial leafs in (kept in place with the tape). To finish off she is wrapping them in cellophane and putting ribbon round it (think this will be tartan to match Ohs kilt)
They look really good, like closed roses, she used to make them for candle parties. I found vanilla scented white votive candles in Eau Naturel 12 for £3. The voile wont be expensive and she already has left over tape and sticks.
I am making my own menus for the meal. The kids meal is completely different from the adults so someone made the suggestion that when i make them to have different characters on it so they can colour in and make it their own.A banker is someone who lends you an umbrella when the sun is shining, and who asks for it back when it start to rain.0 -
