I am getting married on 1st September (Friday) and have saved money already...A registry office ceremony with 43 guests. A friend is doing the photography very informally. I tried on dresses in a bridal shop, found what I liked and then searched for it on the internet/ebay. We emailed all the internet/ebay bridal shops to find the same dress and a bridal shop (who also trade on ebay) sold me their "tried on" shop model dress for £165. It would've cost £700. It is as good as new! The bridesmaids dresses came from the Next catalogue and are simple red silk below knee dresses, costing £65 each.
There is a great ebay jewellery shop called no.1rockavenue who made me a bespoke wedding ring really cheaply - we emailed photos to get it right. A colleague is being my chauffeur in her new silver beetle. We have bought mini jenga and connect 4 games for all the tables to entertain the guests and I've bought big candles and holders from IKEA to go on the tables and will scatter confetti. The wedding cake will probably be a tesco one and will be part of our buffet at the reception and combined evening do.We went to Barcelona earlier in the year and collected bottles of Cava, which tastes just like champagne and will be used for the toasts.
Hopefully it will be a succesful day... Just can't decide what to do about bouquets!!

hi we're hoping for village church wedding next august, i've got gorgeous wedding dress (ebay bnwt french designer shouldve been £690 and i paid £49 :T ), tiara with white , gold & maroon flowers (ebay £5) and daughters bridesmaid gown (maroon and gold, again ebay bargain at £15),OHs suit, Sons maroon & gold waistcoat and have my ring but not his...we're planning on making our own invites/thank you cards and ma-in-laws offered to sort flowers. Thinking buffet reception, with disco and maybe fireworks??
Excellent links in this thread, if anyone can suggest boys suit (7-8 yr old), mens rings (he likes gold and manly lol) or anything else i'm probably missing i'd be most grateful
After 7 years engagement, the rush of setting the date (well nearly, we're down to the last weeks of july or first weeks august) has thrown me somewhat :D
This time next year Rodney... :D

excellent bargains :T and huge congrats too :D

for boys suits i suggest keeping an eye out on ebay

they often have "worn once" next / debenhams suits (which are a good quality) with the lil shirts and cravats etc

look in boys clothing and the wedding section too

check with your venue that you can have fireworks before buying / booking as many dont allow it : ( also they are huuuuuugely expensive if you have a professional company to do it esp at that time of the year

other things you havent mentioned that i can think of are

    cake ?
    photographer ?

    enjoy the planning

    Hi Ayla,

In addition to your disposable cameras, I would suggest going for a professional photographer, to make sure that you get really good shot. Here are a few tips to save on the photographer:

    1. Instead of selecting a wedding photographer, you will be able to make a saving if you choose an amateur photographer who is about to go professional and requires experience. Obviously, make sure you look at his/her prior work before making your selection. Ask friends and family and you may be surprised who they know. Going to photography colleges may be a good starting point.

Obviously, you understand that by doing this, you will be taking a slight risk.

    2. If you are not prepared to do that, I will suggest you take a wedding photographer, and agree for him to stay for half of the day instead of the full day. This way, you don't have to spend as much as if he stayed for the whole day!

    3. Make sure you agree with him the price, if you were to keep the CD (of your photos). Sometime they will not mention anything about this and then once you get your pictures, they will tell that you that if you want reprints it will cost you, say 5 pounds per picture. If you want a CD made of your picture, it could cost you in the hundreds of pounds! We got caught, as we didn't know that we should have negotiated beforehand!!!

Just looked at website above and looks like lillianH is the owner of the site .... looks like if you sign up to email it's free but she's also flogging £97 and £197 manuals for "Secrets to a Fantastic Wedding on a Low Budget" etc. Not sure how moneysaving that is!

Anyway, I think with all the info in this thread plus a bit of imagination you can save loads of money without paying lillian a penny.

Sorry Lillian but i think it's dodgy that you didnt mention it's your website in the post above (of course i am making a large assumption but Lillian Hammond (author of website) and LillianH (mse poster) is a big coincidence!)

I thought that too when I visited, I signed up for the free tips but so far I haven't had any! It would have been more honest to say 'check out MY website.....'
