    Hi All,

I just wanted to introduce myself as I suspect that I am going to be spending a lot of time on here!

After six years of engagement we are finally getting married next year :j

We hadn't really thought we could afford to get married in the way we wanted for some time but then I found this thread and with some careful budgeting we think we can do it.

I just wanted to thank you all for taking the time to post your tips and suggestions as without you all I would probably looking forward to a very long engagement! My sister was also in the same position as me so I have promised to send her the link and we are going to start planning together. :D

Now that I have started planning I am beyond excited. We are hoping to get married in August next year but are pretty flexible on the date as we realise that we may have left it all a bit late. If we can book for August we are thinking of going for a BBQ as it seems a lot cheaper than a sit down meal and I like the idea of us having something a bit less formal. Also this gives me the excuse to hire a bouncy castle which has been my lifelong dream :rotfl:

Where did you find cheap pillar candles?

    Hi Butterfly,

I recently bought some cheap pillar candles from Primark. I'm not sure what colour you wanted as the only had white and cream.
  • get married in vegas! i paid less than £3000 and that included return flights, 5 nights in a 5 star hotel (the bellagio), the wedding service, a 3 course meal for 20 people in a private dining room complete with our own waiter and barman and the dress (£300 from walk-in wardrobe in hove). the hotel where we got married (the stratosphere) supplied and arranged everything. we emailed them the date and they phoned us to arrange it. it was so easy!
  • I had some really nice photobook albums made for my wedding, went thru photoproductions.com. My uncle's a bit of a photo buff so he did the all the photography (thanks Uncle Jack!!) We ordered one large and four smaller albums - they did the design for us but we got to check it on the website, all professionally done, very posh. Arrived almost a month from when we ordered and they look great, still showing the big one off to everyone, altho think they're getting a bit bored! My uncle had got prices from some of those italian companies but their albums were extortionate compared to these guys, so saved me about a grand overall.
  • Hi, me and my fiancee are looking at getting married in 2010. I have real issues with the traditional wedding and want to do something totally different. I want to get wed on a friday at a registry office or local hotel with just 30 of our close family. to get the boring stuff out of the way. Then i want to throw a massive party on the saturday where we will spend the budget. I want to hire a live band, comedian, characaturist, maybe a ventriloquist. this will be at a local social club in cornwall. the catering i want to hire take away vans outside. fish and chips, indian maybe a burger van. The party will be fancy dress aswell. and i was thinking about pre recording mine and the father in laws speeches to be shown on a tv screen half way through the evening, so we don't have to worry about them. the budget for the whole thing will be £3000 and i am hoping to be able to stick to it. Have i missed anything? also does anyone else have any other good ideas? i really want it to be memorable?
    thanks
  • Wow, well it took me a while to get here, but I've finally finished the thread and thought I'd register to thank everyone for their suggestions.

We're getting married next year, which we need to book, and so far this thread has given me dozens of ideas for doing things on a tight budget but still having a lovely wedding.

I'll try to share my budgeting ideas here too :)

I have picked up some plain glass pillar candle dishes from Morrison's at 39p a dish, with some cheap pillar candles from Poundland etc. they'll look fab as part of the table decorations ;)

Would you try New Look? I know they're not majorly Weddingy shoes but they are well proced and they do wide fit shoes. I'm sure they'll have some lovely white/cream shoes online :o Hope that helps.

Have you tried dance shops? they do some pretty low heeled dance shoes in satin that can dyed to the colour you need

I want it to be fun for everyone... so im on the search for ideas
  • Hi - we are looking to get married on 5th November - probably 2010 (optimistic date!) This is our sons birthday and is also bonfire night. We want to link all this together and have a unique wedding with a difference - any suggestions on venues in West or North Yorkshire, things to do on the day (ceremony daytime and kids party theme for reception) and making the best of a shoe string budget - around £4k?
Any ideas would be gratefully received
