Hi, I'm new to the forum, but use Martins tips every week and follow his advice. But this time, I really need some help!!
My boyfriend and I are being married next year in secret abroad to keep costs down and for romantic reasons ( we met there).
My BIG problem is finding a cheap wedding dress. We're on a shoe string budget, but I'd love to turn up at our ceremony dressed as a bride.
Lots of sites advertise budget and cheap dresses, but they tend to range from £200 upwards!!
I've bidded for several dresses on ebay and cant seem to get them bidded quick enough either.
Any info on cheap sites or money savers would be fantastic and truly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help xx0 -
zanebear have you tried high street shops like BHS, Debenhams, Monsoon, Coast?
I got mine from Coast it was £160 and i realy love it0 -
I have found a website called lastminuteweddingdresses.com, many of the designs are similar to major designers and they are really reasonably priced, from about £200-£460. Maybe a bit above your price range, but should help someone. I am seriously considering using them. They can also quote for making a design of your choice, and do made to measure.I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

So far we've got worked out:
Bigger room at the registrars for the ceremony - noon so we just have to feed people a late lunch/early tea buffet dealie
Not having an evening do - might well see if we can persuade the parents to take us out for an evening family meal or something - I hate the idea of weddings that drag on and on and on
I've made the invitations - well kind of, my mum picked up some M+S customize your own cards with a pre-done outer and you just print and slot the inners in, but I didn't like the inner paper so bought a pack that matched the outside of the card better, printed out in a posh font (thankfully I'm very good with DTP and stuff) and hand-embossed the corners. For RSVP cards I've bought a pack of print your own business cards in the same cream colour, printed those and again hand embossed the bottom corner so it looks like they match - just need to get the envelopes I've ordered through but the cost was probably about £15 for the lot.
Brother is doing the photos - he's got a lot of professional photo kit, his girlfriend's doing the cake (chocolate not fruit cos people are funny on fruit cake and chocolate is a general winner).
Reception's going to be in the brand new community building my mother helped get built - although it's a community centre it's all new and shiny inside, has a professional kitchen and the circular conference tables etc already. Also a couple of people on the village committee run a catering company and previously worked for the Marriott so they're doing the buffet.
Because it's the village hall basically - no corkage or silly charges - wine's being bought from Makro or a Euro beer run over the course of the next few months.
Think the disco may be coming from a contact at a discount because they book a lot through him, and somehow my mother's got an Irish dance troupe in as entertainment somehow (I'm sceptical about this).
Having dress issues - I really want a nice top and ivory wide-leg trousers - but can't find what I want in my size - Evans had the outfit I wanted in but it's only for their smaller sizes and I'm a big fat bloater... this is the thing worrying me at the moment - I'm not a dress person anyway, but I'm getting heat from the parents so I figured trousers in a bridey colour would be a compromise - but no luck. I also can't wear heels (problems with my feet) so am also on the hunt for a pair of suitable wedgy type shoes as oh is 6 foot 7 and I'm going to look daft on photos if I'm wearing total flatties.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
Any supplier info you have would be great. Neither of us live in Wales anymore - my other-half is in Germany at the moment, although from Ferndale, so I'm think we need to plan everything better as we can't be there to meet with people all the time. He's also in the army, so we're still not 100% sure when we can actually get married!0
