Hiya,
I bought bridesmaid dresses off a site called Light in the Box. When they came, one was exactly what I ordered, and the other was completely different. I sent it back and was pretty suprised when the correct dress was re-sent(must admit I had my doubts!). I also got my wedding dress off Lily Wedding, and Im over the moon with it. Cost £230 with delivery, and its the nicest dress Ive tried on out of all the ones in the shops. Hope this helps and good luck xx0 -
Hi,
thanks for all the usefull tips, have had a look at the Landy's thread, and decided not to get a dress from one of the Asian websites, as I am extremely fussy, and would be gutted if the dress wasnt what I expected!
Have also been going down the route of looking into 2nd hand dresses, if anyone is also looking for a gorgeous gown, but reasonably priced Id definately look at:
sell my wedding dress (all one word!)
preloved
almostnewweddingdressses
all are dot co dot uk!!
Sorry if thats confusing but cant post links lol
Sooo worth a look. At first I wasnt sure, but then I realised some of them were brand new with tags, and the ones that had been worn, were only on the bride for like 6hrs, so still in mint condition really! :T
Its just a shame I havent found the dress of my dreams yet, but it'll turn up Im sure lol.
P.s LOVE the designer Sophia Tolli, but cant afford any of the dresses brand new, so Im on the hunt for a used one woo hoo !0 -
I wouldn't rule out the Chinese dress makers just yet. I got my reception dress from www.millybridal.com and the quality was just as good as my Amanda Wyatt ceremony dress. Their detailing and workmanship is amazing and I'm very fussy too!!0

we are having a seatin plan for a set buffett on return from the ceremony, but the evening will have a 2nd buffett which will be alot more informal.JulesCools wrote: »Hello, this is my first post so please be nice
I'm getting married in July 2010 and have spent far too long reading all your posts and getting lots of ideas. I couldn't believe how much you can pay for things, we really don't agree on spending so much on one day, we'd rather put the money towards a house. We're getting married in Southampton as this is where we met and got engaged. We're on a tight budget as we've both recently finished university and I'm struggling to find work. Our aim is about £3000 including honeymoon, which my fiance still thinks is steep, but it's really hard, even though we're having our reception in our tiny church hall. I already have my dress, it was "end of season" from a bridal wear shop local to my mum so was half price at £400, I've seen it elsewhere for £1500, so a bargain, but still a signigicant chunk of the budget! We're making the invites and my fiance's good with computers so is building a website. My brother is an amateur photographer and my auntie bakes cakes and does sugar craft so those things are sorted. We're having a buffet lunch and aren't bothering with an evening do as we want everyone at the ceremony and we're not really into partying!
There are a couple of things we're struggling with so if anyone has any suggestions they'd be much appreciated. We need to hire tables and chairs as the hall doesn't have enough (and the ones it has are those horrible plastic type) but can't find anywhere that'll do them at a resonable rate. I also have a general planning question. Do you need to have a table plan for a buffet?
Thanks for all your great tips so far! I still haven't finished reading through, there are a lot and I've probably already wasted far too much time on here!0 -
instead of the traditional favours of candy in little boxes we are having a candy station/ buffett. basically we have a selection of vases in all shapes and sizes and are filling them with different sweets but only pink and white to match our theme. we have had lil candy bags with stickers of our names and wedding date on them so guests can help themselves to their favours. we are having a cupcake stand in the middle of the display also matching colours. a picture of our baby girl will instruct guests to help themselves saying "take a little take a lot cos today mommy and daddy tied the knot".
if any budget left we are planning to make a cd for guests to take away with all our favourite songs which are going to be played on returning from the ceremony.Hey!
I'm getting married in October 2010 hopefully. We are looking at venues now and just beginning really. Its taken me about a week to get to page 15 of this thread so I thought I better post now or my wedding will have been and gone by the time I get through it. I love the tip of dresses from Banardos...theres a wedding one by me luckily. I'm collecting together a scrap book of ideas as we speak.
One I love is getting a really big photo frame and filling it with plain card with a a5ish size picture of the couple in the middle and letting everyone leave their messages around the picture. I'm gonna get a A frame and put it in the reception room and hopefully have something we can hang up in our flat to remember the big day.
Anyone know of any funky favour ideas? So far thinking lottery tickets.
Good luck to everyone else getting married...It seems so far away. xxx0 -
Hi All, i am just launching a Wedding photography business in berkshire (south east) and am looking to shoot a couple of weddings for free for my portfolio. I would be happy to shoot the wedding from Bridal prep to last dance at no cost and provide you with a cd with your images for free, or if you wanted a storybook/album i would be happy to provide this at cost price. I am recently qualified in both reportage and contemporary styles, so you can be assured of a professional service.
This is not a hobby and will be my living so it really would be a good opportunity for both of us!
This is not an advert, there are no catches, i need weddings so will give my time for absolutely nothing to achieve this.0 -

It's been so lovely reading through this thread, but as someone else has already realised, it might take until 2011 before I get through this thread from page 1 so I'm going to read it backwards! (took me 3 days to get to page 11 ).
We're hoping to get married around this time 2010 and we've only just started looking for venues etc and it was quite shocking to see the different amounts similar venues wanted to charge us!
My other half thinks I should hire a wedding planner as I've recently moved from Reading to Belfast and won't have many friends nearby to help me with my planning. I am the sort of person who really likes to do a lot of research before making my mind up about things so am rather reluctant to 'hand over' this once-in-a-lifetime task to a complete stranger. I wondered what other people's experiences of wedding planners were?
In the meantime the idea of making little cupcakes, favours and all our wedding stationery is right up my street so woe betide anyone trying to wrangle that away from me!
Thanks for all the fascinating tips so far - you are all wonderful people! :T0 -
Don't bother with a wedding planner. You can find out most information from the web these days anyway and I can highly recommend the Wedding Ideas forum where you will find a lot of help from other brides.0
