no, their latest appt is 12pm; i cant move the date because my dad is due to have surgery the following week, and all the other weekends are booked up. our registry office has a latest appt of 1 anyway0 -
Does the reception have to go on all night, ktwb? Can't you move the reception to the afternoon, and just wind it up early evening? That way you have no big gap of time to fill, and only one lot of buffet food to pay for.Saving for a house deposit.

Hi All
Me and DF been engaged for 3 years and have booked wedding for July 2010
We having wedding, meals and evening reception at our local Heritage Park 3.5k all in with overnight stay in bridal suite etc too
We going to Ikea to get glass vases and bowls, bought some fake rose petals from Ikea too, going to get some more accessories from there too for table centerpieces etc.
Can anyone give me some ideas on homemade / cheap favours / gifts please?
Im also photocopying / printing black and white photos of me and DF through the years, putting on some thin card, laminating and using them as place mates for table.
Congrats all brides and grooms to be
Is it the Heritage Park in Rhondda, because your prices seem really reasonable?
I've just started looking at venues in south Wales, but they all seem to be hotels in Cardiff, and most of the people coming are from Rhondda (including us), so would like to hold it somewhere more local (and at a price we can afford!) Finding it really hard to get information for local suppliers etc in south Wales, unless you want it in Cardiff.
Any advice you've got would be greatly appreciated.0 -
Hi! One thing we did for our wedding instead of favours was to go to the beach, collect pebbles, wash and varnish them, then use them as place settings - we wrote on one "side" the name of the person and on the other the date of the wedding using one of those nice gold marker pens. It looked really nice and was a nice momento for our guests - and for us, too!0

My and my OH are hoping to get married next Sept 2010. We've been together 10 years and its about time really (split up for a while and are now back together and know what we want! )We are keen to get on with it but at present we dont have much savings but I have worked out by next Sept we could have around £7000 saved, maybe a little extra with help from our families. I really dont want to spend anymore though.
I have found a venue, a gorgeous old house that can be rented out and house up to 25-35 people for weekend (Fri-Mon) for around £3505. We would have to pay an additional £750 for the ceremony but as the guests would be paying for their own accommodation (as they would at any wedding) i have figured out that my OH and I probably would only need to come up with around £2000 max towards venue hire which seems quite cheap given what some pay.
However, as this is simply a house (not hotel) we'll also have to hire everything in, which will include tables, chairs, catering, possibly bar, decorate the house as well as the normal stuff like dress, flowers, transport, stationary, entertainment, cake etc. etc. I'm not sure all this will be possible with the extra £5000 or so we have over and i just wanted to ask two things.
Firstly, do you think its do-able??
Secondly, any tips on how i can keep costs down??
Thirdly, any advice on getting a pay bar hired..no idea how this works?
Cheers :j0 -

thats a brilliant idea, i think we will be doing that for ours!!
i *think* i have sorted the problem of food out. i looked, out of interest at the m+s website of their party food, and as we are going to have around 40ppl for the afternoon session, and only about 20-30 more in the evening, at a conservative view i can feed a light snack in the afternoon and a buffet style platter for £300 maximum. of course im going to have to find lots of paper plates and silver platters to serve it all, but its a damn site easier than getting some stuff from tesco or iceland etc, preparing it and then serving it, almost a little cheaper as i can work out how many it will serve, but still much much cheaper than ordering in proper buffer food.
i havent floated this idea with the OH yet, as hes asleep, but i will tomorrow, i think we are sorting this!0 -

Hiya
Yeah it is the RHP - Im from the RHondda but have moved away so it made sense to have it there and its a pretty venue.
It is reasonable - I can PM you the u event organiser if you want and tell her what you want and she can put together some prices for you?
We did price Cyfartha Castle In merthyr too but was stuck for ideas in evening etc then
I went to a wedding fayre in RHP so had a chance to see it layout too which was fab!
Where are you from in the Rhondda?
Ive booked my photographer, videographer, chair covers etc and few others so if youd like any numbers etc please just let me know:j:jGetting Married 28th August 2010 :T:T0 -

I'm planning on doing this - did you varnish and then write on the name, or name then varnish. I don't want it to smudge!I miss using my infinite coupons at Tesco!
2010 was the worst year ever
But 2011 so far has been a lot of fun! :j

Just my tuppence worth but if you want to save money, I really wouldn't bother with favours. I have been to several weddings in the last few years and about half of favours get left behind on the tables!
We decided not to have any when we got married last year and spent that money on more food / drink.
Much as your wedding is special to you, do remember that it's not something that people will be thinking of forever so they don't necessarily need a memento of your wedding.0
