Thanks for the info guys. I know which I'd prefer, unfortunately Cornwall is a bit far away and Luton isn't :(

yes suppose it is if youre having family and friends etc join you - some lovely locations for a reception and accommodation afterwards though! :j only about a five hour drive hehe. We're going to Australia for ours!!

I thought the £40 thing was a national thing, not sure if you would've done this already but you can get the contact details for your local registry offices on this site http://www.hertsdirect.org/comdirectory/register/marriages/where/getmarried/ and give them a call to see.
    Bump due 22nd September
  • I'm afraid Registry Office prices differ from County to County!
  • All Register Offices will do the £40 price (I used to work there). Unfortunately this can be in the Registrars office! Many have decided that they will charge more for ceremonies in their marriage room but they must all offer the cheaper option. You would probably only be able to fit the witnesses in.

The prices for attending ceremonies at venues do differ county to county.
  • Hi, this is my first time posting on a forum so please be nice!

I have just got engaged and am really excited about getting married BUT the thought of a big wedding feels me with fear!! Neither of us have any religious beliefs so we will also be avoiding a church ceremony.

Ideally I would like to have the reception on a Friday evening (I was thinking 7pm onwards) with all our friends and family there, hopefully 150+ people. To keep the party atmosphere, with people mingling (and to avoid costs), I was thinking of not serving any food, but is this acceptable???

Any advice would be much appreciated!! Thanks :j

I think being realistic, if you want people to turn up at 7, you will have to provide some sort of food as people will need some dinner. It doesn't have to be expensive or too fancy though. I know loads of people who have done fish and chip suppers or bangers and mash or just a cold buffet.

I got married this year and really wanted to give some advice as I found this thread so helpful myself.

One thing I'd really recommend was vista print. I hadn't ordered from there before so I got their newcomer deal which is basically certain items free. I went for postcards and got 100 free and chose a wedding theme and colours that suited my colour theme and put our names on them then a return address on the other side and used them as a return acceptance card. Worked really well. If you put them in your invitations you get them back so much quicker than not. It's a pain for people to find a return, acceptance card as they are hard to find in card shops and it's basically just a drag.

All I paid was postage which was just a few pounds and the postcards looked really good and fit in my invitations perfectly.

    Just a wee tip:D
  • We used Vistaprint for Save the Date magnets and were great. However, one word of caution when ordering! Make extra specially sure that you opt out of all reward schemes and read the small print VERY carefully as what happens is that you get billed a monthly charge. I know several couples that have been stung this way. Just google Vistapring Scam for information.
  • Hi , I was wondering has anyone used this site or heard anything about it? Prices seem almost too good to be true, about 70% off my local bridal shop :j
  • Hi everyone
Apologies if this has already been covered - I have been trawling through the many pages of this brilliant discussion and haven't found it yet.
We got engaged in October (in New York :o) ) and are now planning our wedding for 2011. We have venues etc booked and am looking for ways to save money. I wanted sparkling wine for arrival and the toast, but it's quite expensive (as is the venue's corkage policy), so was thinking of bucks fizz but do people think this is too cheap? I was trying to think of alternatives that seem just as fancy - what about Bellini cocktails instead (not necessarily peach, maybe raspberry instead?)? It means we would need half the number of bottles of sparkling, with something else cheaper with it, so this would really help our budgeting.

    Thank you in advance!
