Hi everyone!
I'm completely new to this forum but have been reading this particular thread since getting engaged in November. I'm getting married 30th July 2010 and everything so far is going well.
One thing I did want to mention that I saved money on was our wedding invitations, my fiance and I are not the "romantic type" and said from the word go that we didn't want all of the traditional stuff. We got hand drawn invitiations from vponsale, my partner is very much into comics so we had him in the Green Lantern costume!
They were amazing with communication and sending proofs and making any changes needed. We got 60 invitations, 60 evening invitations, RSVP and thank you cards including envelopes for all with our address printed on the back for ones we sent and on the front for the Thank You cards.
All in all it cost less than £80 which I thought was brilliant! I looked into making our own and it would have cost so much more than that!0 -
Hi everyone
Apologies if this has already been covered - I have been trawling through the many pages of this brilliant discussion and haven't found it yet.
We got engaged in October (in New York) ) and are now planning our wedding for 2011. We have venues etc booked and am looking for ways to save money. I wanted sparkling wine for arrival and the toast, but it's quite expensive (as is the venue's corkage policy), so was thinking of bucks fizz but do people think this is too cheap? I was trying to think of alternatives that seem just as fancy - what about Bellini cocktails instead (not necessarily peach, maybe raspberry instead?)? It means we would need half the number of bottles of sparkling, with something else cheaper with it, so this would really help our budgeting.
Thank you in advance!

I went to a beautiful wedding in August where they served Pimms as a welcome drink / during the photos, it went down very well.0 -
Hi,
i'm fairly new to here but I saw SOMEWHERE in the wedding forum (its a BIG forum) that someone has mentioned cheap vases. Any ideas what the website was called as I've tried everything!

Hello Tammy,
If you're looking for inexpensive vases, you might want to try this.
I was tasked with making the table decorations for a 'winter wonderland' meal for 20+ people and got very positive feedback on these:
Collect these:
Full size, clean, empty food cans
Tissue Paper, 2 for each 'vase' (I used nice quality, 8 sheets for 99p from The Card Factory, looked & felt identical to John Lewis)
Good quality ribbon, I used the craftyribbon website
A single large bloom or free greenery and any flowers you like
Doesn't take up too much room on the table, and a good height too.
Looks beautiful, honestly! Many guests asked if they could take one home and I was happy to oblidge!
I used pale blue tissue, pink and white ribbons, white blooms.
Happy to supply images if you pm me0 -
Congratulations on your engagement, and what a fabulous place to do it too!

Hi, i have recently got engaged and have been reading through this site and there are some excellent tips!! My question is i have a big family an dont want to be treading on any1's toes, so it'll have to be a large reception to start. Do i go for a nice venue and cut downn on all of the added little extra's, or do i get a wedding package at a decent price and location and then can personalise the extra's a bit more??? Hmmmm decisions decisions!! Any advice???0

We had Pimms too. And a good sneaky tip is that you if mix it good and strong with Pimms bought in bulk at a supermarket and with just a bit of lemonade, your guest will tend to drink less at the bar later thus saving some money! It worked a treat at ours!0 -
thats a brilliant idea, i think we will be doing that for ours!!
i *think* i have sorted the problem of food out. i looked, out of interest at the m+s website of their party food, and as we are going to have around 40ppl for the afternoon session, and only about 20-30 more in the evening, at a conservative view i can feed a light snack in the afternoon and a buffet style platter for £300 maximum. QUOTE]
Such a fantastic idea, I hadn't even thought of that, so much cheaper than a caterer! Thanks for this!!
We're hoping to have ceremony around 3pm, then canapes (lots of) and champagne (even more) and then a buffet at night for all of our 270 guests. Saves us money on a 3 course meal per person during the day, plus I sometimes think that after a huge meal people get tired and you have to get revved up again!0 -
Hi there everyone,
This is my first post but I am a regular at browsing on the site!
I am looking to get married next may (2010) and was wondering if anyone knows any good venues for the North East of England? Ive looked on some websites but can only see really expensive venues!
Thank you!0 -
Hello all, this is my first post in this forum. Got engaged in November in the mountains in Ireland and getting married on 30th July 2010. Have so far booked the church, the reception venue and...
Bought my wedding dress yesterday (in my lunch hour!). I tried it on last Friday and really like it but it's got a stain on the top bit so I decided against. However, was thinking about it over the weekend and realised I could just cover it up with a ribbon all along the top so I bought it! It's beautiful and it was reduced in the Monsoon sale from £200 to £60! Am totally chuffed

Thank goodness I'm not the only one getting married in 6 months without having organised anymore than dress, church and reception. I was starting to worry that its too much to organise in such a short time and that its not normalNot been here in years! Hi everyone. Make £10 a day challenge = £78.45/1550
