Everything doubles (at least) when you mention the word "wedding"
Not been here in years! Hi everyone. Make £10 a day challenge = £78.45/155
  • Thanks girls, but it was an un-needed panick....blinkin future mother in law makin me get into a tiz! They have done the rooms for £56 based on two adults and two children, and have prelim booked 25rooms for us....PHEW!
Wedding plans are going great, after discussing it with the wedding co-ordinator we have slashed prices much more! Instead of a hog roast we are now having a 'trendy' chips and bacon butties! This is coming in at 6quid a head, so we've added on bucksfizz for the photos and champers for the toasts, this still brings us under our £15 budget! We also went to the registry office yest and declared our intentions of marriage! No turning back now! How is everyone elses plans going? x

    Hey floss2,

I went into a dry cleaners before I bought the dress and asked how much it would be. When I mentioned it was a wedding dress they quoted £75 which is more than I paid for the dress! So I'm going with the cover up route of putting a ribbon all along the top which will blend in nicely :)

Go to a different Dry Cleaners and tell them its a prom dress that needs cleaning! ;)

Hia all - just started looking for dresses for my 2011 wedding (need that much time to save up for it!) and have spotted my dream dress already :-(

The :-( is because it's £2k - way over my budget - I was wondering if anyone's had any experiences with haggling prices with wedding dress suppliers? Have done a bit of research, and the RRP is more like 1.5k from the designer - could we mention this to the shop and ask if she'll do a better price?

Anyway, many thanks for any help!

My dream dress was from the Manuel Mota collection which has also £2k

I didn't want to pay that but hadn't seen any other dresses I loved so I looking on eBay. Nothing for a month or two but I saved the search "manuel mota" so that eBay would email me everytime someone listed an item by that designer. Eventually I found one almost exactly the same and got it for £450

I'm pretty sure most independant shops will accept a bit of haggling, not sure about suppliers though as most suppliers only deal with bulk orders which would allow discount

  • I'm getting married this June... already on the 5 month count down!

A few cost cutting ideas we have is...

    - Collecting Jam Jars to put flowers and tealights in for the tables
    - ALWAYS on ebay for anything from fabric roll (for table cloths) to fairylights
    - Making the most of the January sales for the Bridesmaids outfits!
    - Oooh got my shoes in the sale, even had a very slight mark (but noone would notice) so ended up getting them for a tenner!!
    - Doing our own stationary
    - Making our own cakes
    - Making our own favours - biscuits
    - Friend doing my hair
    - Doing my own make-up (have done for years!!!)
    - No car hire
    - Brother is doing the filming
    - Shop online using all the voucher codes! Thanks MSE!!!
    - Having a honeymoon fund as our gift list
  • love the idea of the jam jars!
have only just started planning our wedding for Autumn 2011 but the budget is small-ish so I'm already looking for ways to save!
Going to make own invites, favours etc. Am hoping that my stepmum will supply flowers for the tables from her garden and a friend is making the cake...

Going to phone the venue I've got my heart set on on Monday to try and book. Fingers crossed!
Declutter 100 items in Jan 11/100

Thanks Rina - Can I ask how you're planning on setting up your honeymoon fund as a gift list? Im wondering if you found a website that people can donate through or are you just thinking people can give you cash/cheques?

    Thanks x
