Hi!
we are having our civil ceremony on December 28th and then church wedding with the reception on August 4th.
We just started looking for rings (maybe a bit too late). We are thining about titanium rings (platinum is too expensive and we don't want white gold), maybe with yellow gold inlay.
Does any of you know high street jewelers that would be reasonably priced (we some titanium rings for over £400 and this is supposed to be cheap metal!!!!!). My OH doesn't want to buy onine - he wants to see how they look in real light before buying them.
We live in Leicestershire, so anything in Leicester-Nottingham-Derby traingle would suit us. We are also going to Birmingham this weekedn (Wedding show) so if you know anything around there, let me know!!!Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -

First off, there's the jewellery quarter in Birmingham. it'll probably be marked on tourist maps, or ask in Tourist Info.
Secondly, there is at least one jewellery company that works by bringing a (fairly large) selection of rings to your house at a time convienient to you for you to look at and choose. These are often cheaper than high street stores.

HI congrats to all those getting married - we had a budget wedding and including honeymoon it all came to under £2K yet it was a beautiful day.
Someone was asking about a dress - Monsoon has some lovely stuff, i was all set to get a Monsoon dress but then found another dress on sale in a wedding shop - it had been dropped on the floor and was dusty - so if you go around the bridal dress shops and ask if they have any seconds or dirt damaged dresses you could get a great bargain - i paid £150 for a £800 dress - the shop had it cleaned for me for a cost of £20, the dress was a size too big so they altered it for me too for a very small amount.
We got married in a hotel - we booked the smallest room and because we agreed to have the same room for the reception it cost half the price - it was just wondeful.
I made all my own table decorations - bought cream roses from asda, chopped them down and stuck them in vases - they looked just as nice as the proffessional flower displays that i had done - better actually 'cause my flowers were the big let down of the day and they cost quite a lot of money but i wanted nice flowers.
I made all my save the date cards, invites, menues, place names, favours etc - took me months but they were lovely - simply made with cream card and tracing paper inserts which i printed on - really simple but very effective.
The one thing that i wanted to be special was a tiara - i bought a beautiful handmade tiara which was made using vintage pearls and crystals - the lovely women also added me a blue stone so i had something old, something new and something blue all in one thing - my tiara is now put away and will be passed down to my daughters on their wedding day - anyway this women also made really cheap head dresses for bridesmaids if you bought a tiara - the flowers were hand died to match the dresses http://moonstonetiaras.co.uk anyway my tiara is really special to me and really made me feel lovely.
We booked the holiday on expedia and saved a fortune.
I had my ring handmade too - i have a very heavy 22 carrot ring in exactly the style that i wanted - to buy the same weight ring on the highstreet would cost a fortune, my ring cost just over £100 - it really is worth having stuff made rather than buying it on the highstreet.
I used a friends car to drive me to the wedding - she has a merc so we bought some cream ribbon and fastened it to the mirrors - she ws coming to the wedding anyway so that cost nothing. If i couldn't have used that car i'd have asked neighbours - you could bung anyone you know with a nice car £20 for running you to the wedding.
Oh and i bought loads of floating candles and managed to get some lovely huge glass dishes on long stems to float them in for on the tables - they loooked lovely.
I got the cake from M&S - you have to order them - anyway my sil took it home and decorated it with gold cake glitter - it was really plain but looked lovely.
Hmm we used BIL for the photographs - he was very good, i have some lovely photos and it cost nothing. Laods of people took photos and some lovely photos were taken on digital cameras - these can all be blown up at a photographers and added to a bought album later - hmm mine still need doing.
We asked for vouchers from one shop for wedding gifts so we could chose all our own gifts - this way we could have what we wanted.
Oh the night in the hotel came free with the wedding room. All the music was burned by myself and played by the hotel for us.
Can't think of anything else that we did to save money but several people commented on how it had been the most lovely wedding and how they wish that they had had the same.

It sounds like you had a wonderful day too!
I think it is much nicer to have family and friends to do things as it makes them feel more involved, important and special.
My friend did my photos too and a friend drove the car (see above post). Like you, we had a 'cheap' wedding (that don't sound right! lol). But it was a good day one that i'll not forget for a long time to come.
Well done, it looks like you thought of everything - a true money saver!!** Freebies and money saved with the help of you all? - Don't know ....lost count! **** Stay Safe **0 -
sounds perfect sadie0
