In fact, first question: How common/uncommon is it just to have ceremony and then straight into something like a buffet reception? The thought of organising two separate meals during the day isn't appealing to me, particularly on a budget.
We're getting married at 3pm in town hall then short journey to venue for reception- drinks in gardens then dinner. For all guests, only one guest list, only one meal but sit down and 3 courses.0 -

Can I ask - are your sweets for a candy buffet and, if so, do you mind telling me where you ordered from? I'm overwhelmed by choices online, so would appreciate a recommendation for somewhere good value to order from0 -
Hi ruby, yeah they are for a sweet buffet we've had them from a seller on fb called treaty time who is local to us. I had no idea what to get either so asked the lady what ppl normally had and went from there. We've also got fudge and some extras for sweet trees coming all for under £100

Getting a little concerned as hubby-to-be has pretty much got his outfit sorted, and mine consists of some buttons and fabric so far! I keep seeing parcels arriving and apparently they are jackets, waistcoats etc. I didn't think men were supposed to be this organised!
I have bought some lego to make our cake stand so I think that is our project this weekend.
I have also spent way too long already sewing bunting, and I have only done a couple of meters so far. Sick of the sight of it already0 -
A lego cake stand sounds amazing!! Is it actually cheaper to buy the lego to make it than buy/hire a stand? Or is it just because it looks cool?Savings target: £25000/£25000

The lego cake stand sounds brill - We're having lego men holding flags with epoples names on instead of placecards. Each person has a lego character related to either their job or a hobby they have. They then get to take their little lego men home with them at the end of the night. Managed to find most of them cheap on eBay and just paid a little bit more for a couple of star wars ones and a bride and groom for me and the OH. Booked appointment today for bridesmaid dress shopping with my two adult bridesmaids. We all live in different areas of the country so actually had to properly diarise a dress shopping day! Plus we all really like a few dresses from the Dessy website so we've booked in with a bridal shop to try some of those on.
Wedding invites have arrived (vistaprint to the rescue) as have the save the dates and they're really lovely considering how cheap they were. We managed to upgrade the paper to a linen effect for free and I think that made all the difference. Can't belive it's only 9 months away now - It seems to be flying by!Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!? :huh:0 -
New 2015 bride
September 19th is tentatively booked... just need to put deposit down and finalise with the church!
What are you paying for e.g. wedding party outfits. I want to ask the wedding party men to just wear a black suit and I will provide buttonhole/matching tie etc? I'm not really a traditionalist so prefer normal suits to typical wedding suits anyway (and there's so many men that it would cost around £1000 to hire suits :O ). Bridesmaids I was thinking that they pay for their own but I would contribute - so say if the dress was £50 I would pay half or something?
Also I'm not fussed about a wedding car - F's dad has a Merc convertable so might ask if he will drive us?0 -
We won't be spending anything on wedding transport, we will be staying in a B&B at the place we are getting married so won't need to travel more than about 100 metres up a pretty path! Everyone else can sort themselves out
I'm glad we'll be able to save money on something at least, just done my wedding budget :eek: I'm slightly freaking out that my car (in fact all the cars I've owned) cost less than half what we will be spending on one day. Luckily we are no longer in debt and are in a good position to save for it and not be in debt at the end. Still! Makes me nervous after being an MSE-er all these yearsSavings target: £25000/£25000

Congrats on setting a date! I'm buying my MoH's dress because she has to travel down from Manchester to the Surrey and pay for an extra couple of nights in a hotel so it's only fair. OH and his best man might be hiring 3 piece suits but he hasn't decided yet.
