wow I had no idea it could take that long. I was planning on waiting for the Jan sales as well. Also I am currently in the process of losing weight and trimming down so I didn't want to go dress shopping looking and feeling flabby :o

I will most likely start dress shopping a bit sooner then. Thanks for the tips.

Don't worry too much about the weight thing. You're better off orderihng a dress earlier and knowing there won't be issues with it not turning up. Don't forget you will have several fittings along the way so alterations for weight loss can be made as you go.
Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!?

Yeah, I got my dress, it's at home in mums and my wedding isn't until this time next year! I bought a kitty and dulcie dress and honestly couldn't be happier!!

The bridesmaid dresses were all snapped up in the BHS sale they had in July so that covers all us girls! OH has picked out the best deal for his suit so he will get measured around Xmas time and then again just before the wedding!

I was a wee bit panicy about money but We should have it all saved by January! We were aiming for December but thought it would leave us very stretched for Christmas this year! Then we have the whole of next year to start our baby saving/ house saving fund!

Reading through some of the posts on here, I'm a little concerned that I'm taking a too relaxed approach as I have hardly booked anything.
Wedding date is mid Aug 2015 and so far I have only booked the venue and registrar. Going to give notice of marriage as soon as OH's new passport arrives.

I have noticed people start looking and even buy their wedding dress very early on, like 12 months in advance to their weddings. I was going to wait until the new year which would leave about 7 months or so before the big day. Does this seem ok? Not sure why people buy their dress so early on. I understand made to order dresses can take months, and alterations can take a while but a whole year before your wedding? Am I missing something? lol

You're not the only one! The odd thing is now that I am trying to get things booked (my wedding is October 2015) vendors still seem as uninterested as they were when I got engaged last summer (and back then, all I wanted was an idea of prices so I could budget- I wasn't looking to book anything there and then!)

I'm going to go dress shopping in January simply because I have a week off then. That's nine months away, so hopefully I have the timing right.

Cool! We are going to Disney for 3 weeks!, staying in Caribbean Beach - so the best of both worlds.

Very nice, we're staying in Port Orleans Riverside.

I have found that a lot of vendors - especially in the bridal shops - like to suggest that you dont have very much time, even though rationally you know that there is plenty. I'm having my dress custom made and even then it's only six months before the wedding, so I think you guys have plenty of time.

Interesting, I wonder if it's because I'm going for fairly non-traditional vendors who don't feel the need to apply the same pressure! Good to know there is plenty of time. I also want a custom made dress, but I suppose it doesn't hurt to start looking a bit before I need to in case I change my mind.
  • Hi ladies,

Can I join you please? We've just (today) booked our wedding venue for May next year, just trying to get things arranged bit by bit.

Looking forward to all of this :)

I'm in for a 2015 wedding! It is making me a little nervous that some of you have been planning for years already and we've barely started :)

Hoping to get married June or September next year. We don't really have a specific date in mind - is that weird?? Apart from a couple of dates we don't want (my dad turns 60 next year) we are pretty flexible and would just go with what works venue wise... Neither of us have spent years dreaming of our wedding day, so we don't even have an ideal time of year! Saying that, I do like Autumn :)

Anyway, zero planning completed yet but I'm sure I'll be popping in with updates and questions.

In fact, first question: How common/uncommon is it just to have ceremony and then straight into something like a buffet reception? The thought of organising two separate meals during the day isn't appealing to me, particularly on a budget.
    Savings target: £25000/£25000

I was advised to have my dress ordered by the end of February 2015 for my wedding at the end of December 2015 - this allowed 6 months for delivery, a couple of months for alterations and a couple of months in case of any delays.

I ordered my dress last month and it'll be here in late January - so I'm 7 months ahead of schedule, but I'd found the dress I wanted so what was the point in waiting? Designers do discontinue styles without warning and I didn't want to take that chance. The price isn't any more because I ordered early, it might even be less than it would have been if I'd ordered next year, it just means the dress sit in the shop for a little while longer but as my store doesn't charge for storage what's the problem with that?!
  • I'm another 2015 bride! July 18th to be precise.

We've booked Exeter Guildhall for the ceremony and I'm lucky enough to have an Uncle who lives just outside Exeter and has a beautiful big garden perfect for our reception.
We're hiring a capri marquee and are largely having the reception outside. Yes I know I'm brave considering the changeable weather but we really want it to be like a mini festival (bouncy castle included!)

We're doing all the food ourselves- curry and a buffet and are having cheese wheels as a wedding 'cake'.
We'll have a BBQ later on when people get hungry again.
Booze will be purchased on a booze cruise to France and we'll ask guests to also bring a bottle since there is no pay bar or shop nearby!

I've fallen in love with a Sottero & Midgley dress (not very MSE at £1,100) but my stepmother is paying for it!
Rings we've decided will be palladium as cheaper than platinum and nicer than white gold.

We're having dried flowers since they'll last forever and fit our festival theme.
Decor will be loads of bunting, fairy lights and lavender. Oh and the odd hay bale to sit on!

I'm very lucky to have a friend doing the photography as a wedding gift and most of us are or have been DJ's so all know how to work the decks (my brother can supply the equipment).

Whole lot should be done for less than £7k (including the ridiculously priced dress!)
