Hi ladies,
Thought I would join you all as I am a November 2015 bride to be!
So far we have booked the venue, harpist, florist, DJ, videographer, cake, cars and just bought some stunning bridesmaids dresses from Coast at bargain cost of £95! Really trying to keep costs down so everything I have booked has been at a discount or in the sale.
I have decided to make some wedding decorations and have asked the family to keep all their glass jars for me. I have also bought some nice lace to out round it and will get some cheap tea lights to put in.
Excited to read all about your weddings in the up months months! X0 -

Reading through some of the posts on here, I'm a little concerned that I'm taking a too relaxed approach as I have hardly booked anything.
Wedding date is mid Aug 2015 and so far I have only booked the venue and registrar. Going to give notice of marriage as soon as OH's new passport arrives.
I have noticed people start looking and even buy their wedding dress very early on, like 12 months in advance to their weddings. I was going to wait until the new year which would leave about 7 months or so before the big day. Does this seem ok? Not sure why people buy their dress so early on. I understand made to order dresses can take months, and alterations can take a while but a whole year before your wedding? Am I missing something? lolTotal Mortgage OP £61,000Outstanding Mortgage £27,971Emergency Fund £62,100I AM NOW MORTGAGE NEUTRAL!!!! <<Sep-20>>0 -
I have bought my dress cos apparently it takes a while to get to the store. I ordered it at the end of June and it will actually arrive in the shop around December time. I know this gives me 6 months to fit alterations in etc as I don't get married till next June but part of the reason I ordered it was also that it's last years style but i KNEW it was the dress for me the moment I saw it. If you're worried I'd call your local bridal shop and ask what they would recommend as a lead time on your dress.
Most boards I have seen recommend a min of 9 months btwEveryone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!? :huh:0 -

Where are you off to specifically?
I am starting to get a little worried about saving.
All our costs are mainly set in stone, including a 2k contingency, so I am happy I have cost certainty. But I have run the sums and I need to save £1,300/month to go with my current bills. It's very tight until March.0 -

The whole process of ordering and fitting can take up to 12 months for some styles. A friend of mine ordered her dress 11 months before her wedding and it arrived a week before as there was an issue with the designer. I'll probably start looking in October, but might wait till the January sales in order to buy anything. Gives me 10 months and I don't mind wearing off the rack / ex sample.Where are you off to specifically?
We're off to Disney in Orlando for a week and then 4 days in New York. Never been to America, we're not beach people and we just really wanted to go to Disney!Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20170 -
wow I had no idea it could take that long. I was planning on waiting for the Jan sales as well. Also I am currently in the process of losing weight and trimming down so I didn't want to go dress shopping looking and feeling flabby
I will most likely start dress shopping a bit sooner then. Thanks for the tips.Total Mortgage OP £61,000Outstanding Mortgage £27,971Emergency Fund £62,100I AM NOW MORTGAGE NEUTRAL!!!! <<Sep-20>>0 -

Cool! We are going to Disney for 3 weeks!, staying in Caribbean Beach - so the best of both worlds.0 -

Mine is off the peg and not strictly a wedding dress but I've just bought it and not married until next June. I'd tried it on ages ago (as soon as date was set really) but kept looking at it and then it was 30% off so I ordered it. It's a style that I knew I wanted (not meringuey or a train or too pale, and not strapless as it just never sits right on me)
But a size smaller than I tried on as I know I'm going to lose weight between now and then with my rowing. It doesn't quite do all the way up at the moment, but the waist/ hips are perfect and so if I'd have bought the bigger size, it would hang off me next year. And there is a contingency plan for alterations to the bodice if necessary.
We've just ordered my sister's bridesmaid dress too. Again, off the peg, but she likes it and it will happily sit in the wardrobe until next summer.0
