Abused while standing at my car in a disabled bay

The remark was meant to be confrontational which in my opinion makes it abusive as it was uncalled for.Furthermore, if, as you suggest, the guy was making an apology, there is a right way to apologise and to do so with your back to someone and whilst walkng away from them does not constitute an apology.
But chances are he was so embarrassed about it he just wanted to get out of there quick smart.0 -
A simple wave of your badge and a grin while you walk off would be a suitable reply I think...2012-2013 Deposit target £2663.05/ £3876.74 :j

A flat rate for parking would be a much better option but I certainly think paying for the amount of time you are parked there discriminates against the disabled.
Most car parking charges are not by the minute but in 1- 2 hour blocks. Surely the disability benefits would pay for a bit of extra parking time.
My husband has exceedingly poor mobility, he is only able to walk very short distances so he wouldn't be able to attempt anything that would take hours. In those circumstances we would use a wheelchair or shopmobility scooter which makes him as quick as me.0 -
It depends what benchmark you are setting when you say people exaggerate. Of course some people are more sensitive than others but I don't think they should be vilified for that, everyone is different. Who are we really to say someone has exaggerated a comment and thereby judge whether they should or should not be offended? Some people have a tough skin and take things in their stride, others not so much. Neither is right or wrong, just different.
My word not only verbal abuse but vilified as well. All over a passing comment about parking.0 -

I agree. He could have been much more heart-felt.

I was thinking exactly the same thing.. can't believe no one said it before.0 -

I disagree. I think he should have minded his own business and kept his mouth shut. He was wrong as it happens, the OP did have the appropriate badge and unless he knew for certain that the OP was not disabled then he should have kept it zipped.
You are probably right about the apology, hopefully he was suitably embarrassed0 -

I think you have misunderstood my post. I meant you were vilifying the OP about being sensitive which I personally think is now becoming quite ironic seeing as you seem to be getting very worked up about the thread yourself! If it is not that important why are you getting so wound up about it?
You could always just ignore it.0 -
Just wanted to tell everyone what happened to,my dad on a related topic. He is almost completely blind in both eyes and the damage is irreparable. He was sat in the car whilst my mum popped into the shop, the badges were on the dashboard and they were barked in a disabled bay. So a parking warden knocks on the door where my dad is sitting and says"excuse me sir, you shouldn't be parked here, you aren't disabled, is that badge yours?" my dad being 18 stone and blind looks a bit like a bruiser but he isn't. The warden effectively called him a liar, jumped down his throat, made him feel undeserving and almost like a criminal all because a jobsworth was a bit of an idiot. People who are able bodied and able minded can't think beyond their own existence to even consider that someone may have a serious limiting health condition that you cannot see. You just have to put up with it because the majority of people are like that.0

Surely it is the parking warden's job to check so that spaces are available for the disabled? Are you sure the chap didn't say 'you shouldn't be parked here IF you aren't disabled'.
I do think you are possibly overegging the thing the way you are describing the incident but if not then I assume a complaint has been made as an official warden was involved.0 -

I am sorry to say I am definitely not over eggingcity of Coventry for you.
To be fair, it has only ever happened once.
Complaint?! Hahahahaha! What would be done about a complaint? With the attitude in this country toward disabled people as it is, is a complaint going to make the situation any better? I doubt it. I'm sorry for sounding so cynical but when you have gone through what I have at the age of only 26, you quickly snap out of your bubble and realise, no amount of complaining is going to fix anything.0
