Just say to them, ! "You can have my blue badge, I'll have your health" That usually works for me!

A friend of mine likes to boast about his blue badge and free parking, no Council Tax or rent to pay etc. etc. Occasionally I'm provoked into pointing out that I don't fancy earning the qualifications. Other side of the same coin, I suppose.

Well as the target of the comment I'm sorry to say I do :(

    That doesn't make it so.

Oh I see, so I shouldn’t feel like that then.
  • These people are bigots. In this case they pick on your disability. It's so much worse if you're Asian because when they get an answer that doesn't match their agenda they resort to racial abuse to have the final word.

Having a blue badge does not entitle you to 'no council tax or rent to pay'! In addition, you often have to pay for parking in spite of having the blue badge. All the badge entitled you to is a space.

Ranters rant at BB holders because they want a reaction so if they get one you've made their day. Ignore them, just like you'd ignore an attention seeking toddler.

I disagree. The remark was meant to be confrontational which in my opinion makes it abusive as it was uncalled for. Furthermore, if, as you suggest, the guy was making an apology, there is a right way to apologise and to do so with your back to someone and whilst walkng away from them does not constitute an apology.

I find it appalling that some people think they have the right to act as judge and jury regarding blue badges. They should mind their own business. If someone with the appropriate authority wants to check the authenticity of a blue badge then fair enough. Anyone else should butt out.

As someone who has been on the receiving end, I agree with this! Even if you are normally a confident person and give as good as you get, it can be very upsetting, and if you are having a grim time anyway it is just the icing on the cake.

I am extremely grateful that I am not in the position whereby I need a blue badge and anyone with a disability deserves as much help to make life easier for them as they can get. There seems to be an unbelievable element of jealousy being shown by an increasing amount of people with regard to people who have these badges.

Even more infuriating is the fact that they seem to take it upon themselves to police the use of them.
