Not sure I will get so much done today as I am still not feeling great. Hope I will be better by the afternoon so I can get to the supermarket. I have already updated all my spreadsheets but I really need to look at the utilities today to check I wasn't duped the other day in the supermarket.MFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200

I have made a start on my list and have done a price check for the utilities. I will keep the new tariff for 3 months as we get a lot out of that and then will change to a different tariff as soon as we get the rewards. After this we will save about £6 a month on our payments.

pesto grows fur very quickly when 'off'. House rule here is it is ok if not furry!I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

I have tried to vary our meals for the plan but I need to start working on cost effective meal plans. While I am shopping I will see if any of the meat deals are good value and stock up on these.

I find the following to be tasty and also good value:
Chilli - pad out with extra kidney beans, baked beans, tinned sweetcorn an any other bits you might have lying around. Can usually get 3 servings for two people from it.
Pasta - I cook a big batch is sauce using onions, garlic, tinned toms and balsamic, portion and freeze. Then, just vary it each week by adding things like bacon and mozzarella, prawns and dried chilli, chicken, peppers and mushrooms etc
Vegetable curry - make a base using curry paste, onions, chopped toms, frozen peas, portion and freeze and then vary by adding cauliflower, chickpeas, peppers etc
Bolegnese - portion and freeze, have in a spag Bol or use a portion for a lasagne.....
Handy to have them in the freezer too.0 -
Thanks Lula, I might use this week to cook some of those things for the freezer. I managed to get today's shopping for under £20, it covers everything for two meals plus extra meat for 2 more and some other bits. I need to go shopping again on Wednesday as the supermarket didn't have long dates on some of the fresh stuff, hoping to get as much as I can to last us until the end of the weekend.MFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200

I have extended my meal plan to Sunday and have spent the afternoon putting all my menus and ingredients into a spreadsheet so I can check ingredients and make my shopping lists much easier. I don't need to buy too much when I go shopping on Wednesday although I am do need to check we have enough breakfast and lunch stuff to take us through to next Monday with maybe a top up shop on Friday.MFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200
