MSE News: Orange ends free broadband

  • If like me you are losing your free broadband and considering taking up Orange's offer for paid broadband just to keep your email address THEN THINK AGAIN. Orange is now part of Everything Everywhere so I think they will change all email address in a year or so. If you have signed up with Orange now you will still have the hassle of changing your address in the near future.

My evidence to support this view is twofold.Firstly in the Netherlands Orange are currently telling people their addresses will change this year. Secondly in Switzland they are telling people that they will no longer support emails and they should go to Gmail, Yahoo or other providers. The worst case scenario is they may do the same here.

I too read the website re: BB. ‘Orange Just Got Better’

If you read the small print it becomes apparent why they want our landlines.

With the forthcoming roll out of 4G and fibre BB and you will need to upgrade and an EE Fibre BB plan.

And we’ll all become EE customers and live happily ever after!

    NOT ME!

I think also its something to do with you using your Orange mobile at home.

I think it goes without saying to anybody who is thinking about Moving their broadband from Orange but understands little about usage is to watch out.

Plusnets cheapest offering is 10 gig pcm up to 60 gig pcm for their most expensive offering. For every 5 gig over this its a cost of £5.

If you use any type of internet streaming services such as YouTube, BBC Iplayer, 4OD etc this will eat up that 10 or 60 gig usage in a heart beat.

Oranges was Unlimited so don't fall into a false sense of security that your a low user without fully understanding what the constitutes.

If you get stuck try this: http://www.which.co.uk/technology/computing/guides/broadband-usage-calculator/

    Some good points,

despite lot of bluff and bluster re Orange (yes they have made a mess of this) People need to be careful they get the best deal for themselves.

BT are very quick to charge £5 extra if you run over on their BB option 1

I was being sarcastic, you know Orange Broadband becoming newly branded EE Broadband ;)
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)
  • I too have received my letter about my free broadband ending. Having been a loyal Wanadoo/Freeserve/Orange customer for years I am not impressed. I have just had a conversation with Orange who are now offering to pay back any charges from BT for changing line rental up to a cost of £100 and a new wireless router!
Still not happy but will now be contacting BT to find out the cost of cancelling with them as I can't afford to pay broadband charges as well as my two orange mobile contracts that I only have because of the free broadband offer!
  • mfolland - was it a paper letter through the door or an email? or both? i haven't either yet so am wondering how/when i'll be informed...
  • I haven't had anything yet either. I'm another one who is still using my wanadoo email address, too.
