I'd probably say to hold fire for as long as you can before the cut off date.. they have just announced some new broadband offers and fiber broadband offers are coming soon. Dont want to get stung twice!

you can read about it on the orange website under "orange just got better" a rather bemusing title.

    thanks montage.

as far as i can tell it's free, i.e. i haven't paid for my broadband for years but have kept up my mobile phone contract during that time. so technically not "free" but i don't pay extra for my broadband.

i guess i won't proceed with my bt line saver(£10ish a month) line rental but pay orange(£14?) a month instead and keep my free bb with them...

    me

You can beat that £14 price by joining Plusnet for home phone and broadband. Do it through Quidco and get £38 cashback, then after a year see what else is available. I personally will not stop with Orange after the Exec Office promised I would keep my free home broadband for life (if I keep my mobile number on contract) just 5 months ago... and now they won't even talk to me.
  • thanks both. will deffo look at alternatives, e.g. plusnet, but i moved into my house almost exactly a year now and it took a month to get orange broadband working so could do without that hassle of changing isp's.

can i ask how orange notifies their customers of this change? is it by letter through the post or email? i don't use my orange email at all and even though they must have known i've moved i'm secretly hoping that i'm lost in their system...

With Plusnet you only get 10GB not unlimited, so you need to compare like with like. I personally get from Orange unlimited BB, anytime calls + international calls via the 2nd line, so it's a lot to give up for a £5 a month. I have not been contacted yet by Orange, but I would imagine once they have dealt with the free BB customers, they will come after the customers on the Livebox unlimited contract from 2007.
  • When I got "free Broadband for life" I received a leaflet with this information: "Q Is it really free? A Yes, as long as you keep your Orange mobile connected to a monthly plan of £30 or more". That's a direct quote. I have now received a letter saying my free BB will end on 29 October 2012, a full 18 months before the end of my current monthly mobile contract. A breach of contract surely?

Have you got a copy of this leaflet you can post online so we don't all have to go searching through old paper work? It'd be very helpful! Thanks!
  • hi guys,
im new to this so bear with me.
I am the same as you guys received a letter stating my free broadband comes to an end 5 nov.
last night i tried surching for cheap broadband and possibly tv package (i currently got sky).the best i could come up with bt broadband + eve & weekend call + bt vision for £13 a month, 12 month contractfor both tv + bb.
BUT i singed up via quidco and it offers £100 cashback.I have received an email from quidco stating they are tracking my purchase and that bt is one of their (faster payment). As i had just singed up with bt for line rental saver a month ago, all other companies would expect you to take up their landline.thought id give it a go.
hope this helps. I cant see myself getting anywhere with orange, but good luck guys

I think it goes without saying to anybody who is thinking about Moving their broadband from Orange but understands little about usage is to watch out.

Plusnets cheapest offering is 10 gig pcm up to 60 gig pcm for their most expensive offering. For every 5 gig over this its a cost of £5.

If you use any type of internet streaming services such as YouTube, BBC Iplayer, 4OD etc this will eat up that 10 or 60 gig usage in a heart beat.

Oranges was Unlimited so don't fall into a false sense of security that your a low user without fully understanding what the constitutes.

If you get stuck try this: http://www.which.co.uk/technology/computing/guides/broadband-usage-calculator/

Hmm this would be a problem for me too....... and could prove expensive if I am not careful!
As you say it would be easy to be lulled into a false sense of security.
  • Something else i have just noticed.. PlusNet is a half price offer for 12 months, so that £3.24 will double after 12 months forcing you to go else where.

So i guess its not just the small print you have to watch.. its the big print also
