How far do you commute to work?
Comments
-
I drive 260 miles a day. I've done this for 2 years this month, driving from Birmingham (home) to London (work)
Birmingham, M42 -> M40 -> M25 -> work an 8 hour day -> M25 -> M40 -> M42 -> Home.
I find it quite pleasant, albeit occasionally tiring.
Must take a toll on your car though.0 -

The offer was/is -
company car at a flat rate of 15p a mile
or
Use my own car and claim 40p for the first 10000 and 25p after that.
I calculated I was better off with option two, but it depends on your POV. I don't have much affinity to my own car (technically my wifes) so don't mind killing it with miles.0 -

Isn't being paid to drive cheating in the "how far do you commute" game?

Used to do over 50 miles a day in the car, luckily was mostly rural roads so quite quiet and around 50 minutes. Then we moved offices and now a 15 minute walk which is much better.
Though I think dealing with the traffic and cyclists as a pedestrian is more stressful than an hours driving (I've been hit by three cycles - on the pavement - in the two years since we moved).0 -

Depends on how much you value your 'free', time I guess!
A few years ago I was offered a job which is was located about 20 mins away. Not a problem until I found out they were soon to be moving another 30 miles away, and for that reason amongst others I declined knowing the money wasn't brilliant and having to battle a few notorious for motorway junctions wasn't worth it for me. I got a job a week later, the more money and round the corner from their original place

About 40 minutes brisk walk there and another 40 minutes back. All uphill there and downhill back.0
-
3.8 miles which takes between 30 - 60 minutes via bus and train depending on traffic/delays etc0

I meant more the fact of having a company car and benefits rather than being paid more - if that makes sense!0 -
I drive to work - 30 miles each way and (on a good day) it can take 1 hour to get to work in the mornings and takes around 45 mins to get home.0

One hour drive there and one to one and a half hours on the way back.
Incidentally my firm is also moving offices but it is in the same business park - should shorten my journey by about 1 minute each way!!0
