How far do you commute to work?

Katie, consider changing jobs. I say consider because I know it is no easy matter to simply swap from one job to another, especially in the current climate.
If more people did the same, companies might think twice before simply flicking locations and expecting employees to pick up the pieces ( and commute to the new location at their own expense!)
Yes and if they change the brand of coffee in the canteen you should probably organise a wildcat strike too....Go round the green binbags. Turn right at the mouldy George Elliot, forward, forward, and turn left....at the dead badger0 -
I doubt that very much. Businesses move for a good business reason such as lease expiring and no choice to renew, need to expand but can't in the current location etc. The fact that it will take Fred 50 mins instead of 20 mins doesn't even come in to it.. If they lost staff because of the move then I doubt very much whether it would take them long to replace them.
You don't even know how many people are affected. A local firm moved to the outskirts of our town from the centre just recently. Big hoo-ha about the move and extra travel. When it was looked into deeper 70% of the workforce were closer and wouldn't have to fight the town centre traffic so cutting travel time and costs dramatically.
Agree. I also imagine a number of staff will have a reduced commute if the new location is in the same town/city. Swings and roundabouts - Some you win, some you lose - probably not worth quitting over in a huff...!Go round the green binbags. I used to do 2.25 hrs each way each day (4.5h/day) when I was younger!
The world average commuting time is 40 mins btw - whether walking from one remote village to another or catching the tube in London http://www.worldmapper.org/display.php?selected=1410 -
If it was a well paid job, I wouldn't be so bothered but I don't like my job, had to accept a lower pay after being made redundant. Then they go and move offices...hmmmpfff.
Still, at least I DO have a job, which keeps me going..
Sounds like an hour each way is standard fom what everyone is saying here.0 -
I have a 7 minute walk to work! :j
I love the fact I don't have to drive or worry about parking. I start work at 0930, so I leave my house at 0900 stop on way in for a sit down and a smoke, then arrive at my desk at 9.15!
Always home by 17.450 -
Would consider giving up the smoking if you need a sit down half way along a 7 minute walk
(not just saying it because i am envious) 0 -

hee hee - I dont need to sit down!!! It 's just part of my routine (a bad routine I know!) I have down-loaded the Alan Carr - Easy way to stop smoking to my Kindle - I just haven't started to read it yet!!0 -
I am very lucky, although I did move to be close to work. I have a 2 minute walk.
I never realised how draining commuting actually is until I moved0 -
If any of you have read my thread about the interview I attended - I live in Tibshelf, Derbyshire, and the job is in Huddersfield - shortest/quickest route (not necessarily the same thing) would take me nearly an hour and a half each way, and the job offered is for twelve-hour days! But I've gone for it anyway, because it will be a nice little earner and it's also only temporary until Nov/Dec this year, so I think I can hack it driving and the long days, for a three-month period.

Depends on the nature of the business. Staff are easy to find. Experienced, loyal, hardworking staff quite another.I doubt that very much. .probably not worth quitting over in a huff...!
I'm not suggesting doing anything in a huff. Just consider it as an option. The OP probably already has.0
