How far do you commute to work?

My work is moving offices. At the moment I have a very comfortable commute of about 20 minutes each way by car. The office is moving to the other side of town, this will make my commute about an hour each way by car. As I will have to cross town, it could take longer some days. No provision has been made for flexible working hours to avoid ruch hour traffic. Am seriously cheesed off.

45 miles - usually an hour when the kids are at school but as of tomorrow - if I go in rush hour I have to leave by 7:15 to make it there by 8:30 or I can't get there by 9.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0

Used to drive and took an hour (20 minutes during normal hours), now cycle and it takes about 45 mins.
Im sure theyve got a good reason for relocating, and you could always look somewhere?! An hour during rush hour isnt really unreasonable i dont think.0 -
They have got a good reason, our office is pretty cramped and the new offices are supposed to be amazing...looks like I may be over reacting a bit...Thank you for the reality check!0

Katie, consider changing jobs. I say consider because I know it is no easy matter to simply swap from one job to another, especially in the current climate.
If more people did the same, companies might think twice before simply flicking locations and expecting employees to pick up the pieces ( and commute to the new location at their own expense!)0 -

2 hours to go 45 miles?! :eek:0 -
An hour each way.
And I know loads of people who commute into London each day from as far away as Birmingham area and have 3-4 hour total commute each day - not unusual.0 -
I travel 16 miles by bus & train takes me between 45-90 mins depending on traffic.
One of the girls on my team travels 40 miles a day takes her anything up to 2 hours again depends on trafficFirst Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0 -
76 miles.....38 miles each way. On a good day with no delays around 2 hours, during school term time and general bad days ( have to cross Spaghetti Junction BHM ) it has taken as long as 6 hours to travel one way :eek::eek:
I don't have much option as I am agency employed and this is a longterm assignment which pays well, sadly my workplace is not near a train station and I need my car when at work anyway. At least I have a job though.0 -
I commute to the City from Hertfordshire and it takes about 1 hour 10 minutes each way, including walks. I used to commute to the same job from Portsmouth - nearly 3 hours each way! There were people getting on the train at Portsmouth Harbour who had already commuted across from the Isle of Wight!DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244
