The car was impounded with an immediate fine of £150 and another £50 every 24 hours its in the impound. To add insult to injury the impound is now not open until Tuesday!
The police officer (who was well within his rights to seize the car due to it not being on his system) would not call the insurance company under any circumstances despite a lot of begging. Can they do that?
Police officers can do what they like without repercussions (just ask the families of John-paul Menenez and Harry Stanley)
The officer should have checked but I think you need a solicitor.0 -

This just doesn't ring true on a number of points.
Police cannot suspend a licence at the roadside. Neither can they update the DVLA database to say they have suspended a licence. The only changes that can be made to the DVLA database are by DVLA themselves and no-one else.
All the police can do is to create reports relating to a vehicle on the PNC or to show someone as wanted/missing, of which there are a number of different categories.
Police only have access to the DVLA driving licence database to view the information held there via the Police National Computer.
If there were issues with the identity of the OP's partner and it was suspected he was another person who was shown as disqualified from driving then it is most likely he would have been arrested.
I'm not aware of police having any powers to contact an insurance company and to instruct them to cancel a policy, so this needs further explanation."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

Has this been confirmed by the insurance company?"You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

The licence was not suspended, no-one has the authority to suspend a licence.0 -
